My local shooting range has started some long range 22lr competitions and I’m trying to build a gun that will make it nice and easy. The key seems to be optics. Now just for clarification when I say long range, right now the competitions are set at 220 yards. But there has been y’all of stretching out to 300.

Do any of you guys shoot 22lr that far and if so what kind of optics and gun set up do you have?

Our NTxR League just held a 22 long range match that went out to 350 yards. I run a custom built 10/22 with all KIDD parts besides the bolt and receiver is still Ruger in a titan stock. Run a 20MOA EGW rail, Vortex 5-25 Viper Gen2, in Seekins rings. There was a lot of great guns out there and I was tied for 1st until the final stage (350 yards). I ran out of elevation and had to hold 3.9 Mils in my reticle.

So a 30MOA rail would give me plenty of travel for that distance, which I’ll get if we continue to hold the long range matches.

This is my setup, there were a lot of nice bolt guns out there but my gun seemed to hang pretty well.

Do you use a ballistics app or calculator to do your long range stuff or just experience?
Also, when you put a 20moa rail on what range do you zero at?

I zero at 50.

I use the JBM Trajectory calculator to get close and then confirm dope all the way out changing it as needed. I do this from 25 yards to 350 yards in 25 yard increments. Once I get my dope it seldom changes from match to match. Some times if it’s really hot it will shoot a little high I just adjust on the fly.

I’ll go

I have a PST2 5x25 Same as above. When I had my 20 moa rail I maxed out my dial ( Bad) at just over 300 yards. I bought a 40 moa rail and have not gone further than 350 yet.

There is a new inexpensive Strike Eagle that offers a lot of vertical travel

I mostly see Vortex and Athlon on the regular
Top dog is the 7x NF

I have a Nx8 on top of a 40 moa rail, so far I have run out of dialable elevation at around 450.

The 5-25 Strike Eagle has a zero stop. At least mine does.
