I've had several. My current model is a Zircon. None of them are worth a chit.

Just IMHO.....

No chit?

How bout bathroom walls with no plugs.

I could tell you, but you probably wouldn’t understand...
Especially with a response like above.

Zircon A100 here. Mine has stud scan and deep scan for thicker walls and fire resistant drywall. Detects Wood and Metal studs. I think it also alerts on wires. Got it off Amazon a few years ago. $20-$30.

My knuckles are the best stud finder I've used thus far. I just knock on the wall and listen for the difference in tone of the knock, so I can differentiate between just hollow empty space and a stud. When I find one, I measure 16 inches on either side of it to figure out what the spacing is between each stud just to be extra sure.

If you find yourself feeling useless, remember it took 20 years, trillions of dollars, and four presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban.

Sometimes the Universe puts you in the same situation again to see if you’re still a dumbass.

Look for where the plumbing exits the wall. Even PEX has to be tied to a stud. Then start knocking.

Seriously, the smallest drill bit you have. You can get close locating plumbing, corners, electrical, etc. If you haven't painted yet, no big deal, at the most you're punching 3-4 needle sized holes in our drywall. If you're hanging a picture, towel bar or something else it's likely whatever you're hanging will cover any small holes. I made this from a bourbon barrel stay and needed to hit two studs. I located one off of an electrical box, the second required a few attempts with the drill bit that no one will ever see. If I was really worried, a QTip application of paint will cover these 1/32" holes behind my coat/hat rack. [Linked Image]

You should be ashamed of yourself, but, I know how these sibling things go, for sure.

Just my experience. Regardless of your choice. It is a tool. You need a contol to base your readings.

PSA. I have a Zircon now. It works best with blue painters tape on wall side of tool. Seems to allow you slide a cross texture better. Less false signals.
