New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday that her office has filed a lawsuit against the National Rifle Association and its leadership, including Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, looking to dissolve the organization.

James accused the organization of having "a culture of self-dealing," taking millions of dollars for personal use and granting contracts that benefited leaders' family and associates.

"The NRA's influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets," James said in a statement. "The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law."

Any organization can have a bad apple or 2, and they usually they do. But I think the AG has his eye on blaming everyone, which I doubt is the case.

Another lame attempt by the left. Fraudulently use taxpayer money to attack things they don't agree with. Go Dems, keep digging that hole.

I wonder what would happen if Paxton sued the Democratic Party for corruption, mismanagement, etc? Seems a reasonable person would agree those charges would stick.

So a AG can attempt to dissolve a PRIVATE organization? The NRA is a privately held organization isn't it?

The NRA is incorporated under the laws of the state of New York. If there was any wrong doing by the officers or employees, they could possibly go to prison and or fined. The state might also be able pull the corporate charter, that is when it gets real.

Either way, I believe this will be expensive, and the membership dollars will paying the expenses.

I believe this guy nailed what is about to happen, and if it does, it proves the AG of NY right.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e3k0sZ1J5I

I left the NRA a long time and found there are several other Pro 2A groups to put my money with. Hate that is NY doing this, but alot of the of what is said in the AG suit I believe to be correct. (Alternative to NRA )

If Wayne Lapierre really cares about the 2A and the NRA, he'll move their non-profit to Texas, where the LT Gov and AG have extended an invitation. They will also change the structure of the Board, and put in a transition plan for someone other than Lapierre to run the organization. He would also ensure the structure is such that what he and his business associates did can not happen again.

Time will tell.

Oh, here is a lengthier talk on the subject that I've still got to listen to if anyone is interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAmI8GtuKIo

Let’s wrap the NRA up in lawsuits and keep them from running political ads in an election year... is what this is exactly about.

Exactly! The Demonrats know that the NRA is the biggest threat to their plans to seriously weaken the 2nd Amendment. Too bad more gun owners don’t realize it.

Pappybear, as much as I am upset and disillusioned by the way the NRA handles some things, I realize that your statement is 100% spot on.

I don't see it's any of her business what the NRA has done. Now if a member wanted to sue for whatever, so be it. We don't need Big Sister watching out for us.

NRA should sue to dissolve New York. Like Bill says, ain't none of her business. But we well know if a demonrat doesn't like something they set out to destroy it.

I would not be surprised if we learn what skeletons she hides in her closet in the coming months. I am about ready to cash mob the NRA.

She might as well be running ads for Trump her damn self. The more people learn about stuff like this, the more they will lean towards Trump this year.

I am sure they love it in New York though.

Any coincidence that the NY AG is coming after the NRA and the SDNY arrested Steve Bannon last week. Not related but I dont believe in coincidence any longer.

Hurt Trump and us Deplorables as much as possible.

Bad thing about Wayne is what he has done to the NRA. If Ollie North couldn't work with him, you know he's the problem. The organization would be much better off without his being in the head position.

The National Rifle Association and a handful of its current and former leaders, including CEO Wayne LaPierre, are in legal jeopardy, with the biggest looming threat posed by New York Attorney General Letitia James’s move to dissolve the gun group.

LaPierre, and by extension the NRA, have entrusted their welfare to outside counsel Bill Brewer, whom some NRA members and insiders accuse of helping to lead the gun group into its current crisis. Regardless of the degree to which he is culpable for the NRA’s mess, his decisions will likely affect how the situation resolves — whether with the group’s demise, an NRA victory, or, as seems most likely, a legal settlement that overhauls the organization.

As the parties file their initial motions in James’s dissolution lawsuit, I wanted to look at Brewer’s record as outside counsel and talk to members who are concerned about his influence.
