Kind of a letdown....

SFP options for MIL/MOA in the NX8 platforms 2.5-20 and 4-32-- reticle options look decent, but I was hoping for a FFP MOA 'christmas tree' or something entirely new with locking turrets.

The 2.5-20 subtends at 20x and the 4-32 subtends at 16x

I meant there is a Mil/Mil option and a MOA/MOA option-- not that they went old school and mixed them up.

Good luck with that 4-32 SFP, after lookin at the reticle I am not a fan-- it is interesting that you'll be able to make 1/2 MOA subtension holds at 32x though.

What what I've heard there is no detent or method to provide the shooter with feed letting them know they are at 16x or 32x which means lots of looking to be sure your magnification and therefore subtensions will be correct.

nightforce did this because of demand. they didn't have a MOA/2nd-fp. thus this new model. there must be a few of us old codgers who want this combo. . i sold my FFP/MOA for what i paid for it actually a little more

I'll be ordering a SFP MOA 2.5-20x. Been waiting for them to make SFP in the NX8.

Could've adjusted the thickness of the edges of the reticle, so they are thicker at low power. March scopes have done this, problem solved.

No thanks on an SFP scope.

I guess there just has to be a ton of people asking for something like this, or they wouldn't have made it. But I don't understand why anyone would want to be limited to 16 or 20x for the reticle subtensions to be accurate. And if that doesn't matter to you, then why are you paying $2k for a NX8 to begin with? I am fine with the virtues of SFP scopes, but they need to top out at 10x magnification or it's not being used correctly, end of story.

All in all, I didn't think I'd like the 8x zoom ratio and also figured they made some compromises for it to be so short. So didn't care about the FFP version, and care about the SFP even less. A used ATACR F1 4-16x42 cost me the same money, and it's a MUCH better choice.

i gotcha. speaking for just me. i don't range distance with my reticle. i use a rangefinder and can dial if i need to.

i can definitely see the need for FFP if you run PRS matches where distances are unknown and you need to use reticle to range.

this is why so many models available. one for everybody

^^Wrong track

Ranging with the reticle is a parlor trick now days. I keep a laser beside me all the time. The reticle being true is for making correct elevation and wind holds. For 400 yards, hold 1.8 up, and with a 5 mph cross wind, hold .3 With SFP, that can only be done correctly at one magnification. No thanks. I would tolerate a SFP scope if the top end was 10X or 12X.

99% of PRS stages are known distance. Occasionally they will throw in a UKD stage.

I agree on FFP being better for any reticle other than just the standard duplex. I'm fairly new to anything beyond 200 yards, and also new to actually holding or dialing for elevation/wind. I always just used the Max Point Blank method previously. I've missed quite a few shots Using a SFP scope with BDC not because I had bad dope, but because I was hunting and had the wrong magnification dialed and was using the BDC. For what it is worth, IMO, SFP for duplex, FFP for anything with hash marks.
