I never bought them at a dealer. I just went through all of my relatives pockets.

That’s a great find and in very good shape. I suspect you did not get that in change. It’s been in someone’s collection for a long time. They’re steel, so rust usually kills them. They were only made for three years during WWII because copper was in short supply. It was 42,43 & 44 I think.

Put it in an air tight case and it won’t rust. Don’t clean it.

If I remember correctly, no mint mark means it was from the Philadelphia mint.

It came from Whataburger or Wendys. I am not sure because I usually just put the change in my wallet without looking at it. I pulled it out today to put it in my change jar and noticed it and since those are the only two places I had been it had to come from one of the two.

The silver war nickles are the ones you are thinking about being minted those three years. The steel penny was only minted in 1943.
