I think a MOAB is like 20,000 lbs of high-explosive.
This was possibly 5,400,000 lbs of ammonium nitrate, only a low-explosive (.42 of TNT**) , violently detonating due to high-heat exposure, same as the Texas city 1946 fertilizer explosion.
so kinda think 20 thousand pounds of TNT -vs- 5 million pounds of black-powder!

"On a scale, this explosion is scaled down from a nuclear bomb rather than up from a conventional bomb," said Roland Alford, managing director of British explosive ordnance disposal firm Alford Technologies. "This is huge."

If GoogleEarth is accurate it's about a 3 acre hole.

Some of the videos of the explosion are insane. I expect death tolls to continue to rise significantly in the coming days as they clear rubble.

I think they will need an eye dropper and a sponge to find some of them.

EDIT - whoa - after googling 'Beirut silos' I find that IS actually grain silos - 120,000 metric tons of grain!-
guess they're quite lucky in one way it didn't detonate, there would be no city left!!! -
but very unlucky in another way as news reports that is 85% of their grain.:( - prayers up!

There were obviously fireworks going off in some of the videos. The fireworks clearly weren’t the only thing that exploded. The ammonium nitrate (especially 2700 tons) would do it. I’m not ruling out they theory that there were weapons stored there, but the fertilizer answer isn’t outlandish.

Anyone remember the fertilizer explosion in West a few years ago? Absolutely believe it was ammonium nitrate....which is also used in bomb making so there’s that too
