Georgia teen fighting for her life after vicious pit bull attack

A 15-year-old Georgia girl was fighting for her life Monday after being mauled by two pit bulls while taking a walk in her neighborhood.


Joslyn Stinchcomb had her scalp torn off, her left ear bit off and her trachea damaged in the vicious attack Friday in Barrow County, local paper Classic City News reported.

The soon-to-be high school sophomore was strolling in her Winder neighborhood when the dogs began chasing her.

A Barrow County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene to find the teenager lying face down against a curb, with one dog grabbing her neck and the other gnawing at her head, according to a police report.

The deputy shot and injured one of the pit bulls as it approached him, scaring the other one off. The dogs were found at their owner’s house and later euthanized, the News reported.

The owner, 29-year-old Alexandria Torregrossa, was arrested and charged with reckless conduct after she returned home, according to the report.

Joslyn remained in the intensive care unit at an Atlanta hospital on Monday. She initially had to be put on a ventilator because of the condition her trachea was left in.


Doctors were able to reattach her ear, but it’s unclear whether she will ever be able to use it again, her aunt, Charity Stinchcomb Montgomery, told the paper.

They “don’t know if she will be able to hear out of that ear,” Montgomery said.

The girl, a flutist in her school marching band, also lost much of her hair in the attack, and her aunt said there’s a chance it never grows back.

So much nerve damage was done that it “may affect her smile, her blinking and other facial expressions,” Montgomery said.

“There is still so much that we don’t know about her injuries,” she added, “but we know that God knows and that can heal her.”

Our new neighbors have another one. Hate those dogs. I dont let the kids out alone. A pack of 4 blue healers chased me on my morning run, sometimes i wish one would get brave enough to bite so i could fix the problem.

Building new fence on our property, my wife asks why do you want net wire instead of barbed. Net stops dogs.

Municipalities should impose a high annual fee to own a dangerous dog in the city limits. Many insurance carriers now exclude the breed from home owners coverage.

The first man I ever knew that owned a Pit was attacked by the dog. This was in the mid-seventies and he was over 70. The dog tore him up.
I had never heard of a Pit bull back then.

I’ve said it forever - it’s a bad breed and people make them even worse .

Punishing the dog seems to have no affect on other pit bull owners, maybe it is time to euthanize the owners and the dog after an attack.

Maybe the owners should do some serious time in jail.

I hate those dogs and have never trusted them. One my neighbors has one that looks like he’s on roids and his ears have been clipped. Dog looks pure evil and I hate when his owner’s wife walks the dog. The wife is every bit of 120 pounds and there is no way she could hold that dog back if he had bad intentions.

You wouldn’t want to do that to one of my dogs. But you wouldn’t have to. You’d love my dogs, even the pit. Do yourself a favor, go befriend the pit. They are great friends. Mine would defend you if you were her friend.

I don't need a dog to defend me, I just need a dog to sound the alarm, I'll defend myself. My Yorkie is great inside security as well as my Jack Russell.

Prayers for the poor girl and her family. That is first, the debate should come later.

I don't even need a dog, the dogs on 3 sides of us let us know every time there is movement within 30 yards of the house.
