There are a lot of available jobs right now, people just don’t want to do them because the government pays better.

Exactly. A co-worker and I were discussing this a bit ago. Everywhere you look, there are help wanted signs at various businesses.

At most it should be maybe $100-200 per week, and then only to individuals who've lost all sources of income in the house. I'm sorry if you made bad decisions but it's not on us to pay for it.

No one should be getting paid more not to work! Traditionally, Unemployment insurance was paid until you were called back to work. If you refused work, unemployment payments stopped unless you were not being offered similar hours and pay. Congress stuck in too many exceptions for not returning to work in the Cares Act . This allowed people to skirt legitimate offers of re-employment. That needs to end along with the $600.00 federal bonus payments.

Companies in our industry can't even produce the orders we have because folks would rather sit home with the government bonus.
It has to end.

What I want to know is.........who's accounting for the FIRST $2.9 Trillion dollars. That's a HELL of a lot of money. Where is it? What was it spent on? How much is left? Do we even NEED another round? Show me........

No. My 30 something daughter and her wife are basically paid protesters who sit around all day, post about all the social injustices of the world on Facebook and then go out and march for a few hours with the rest of their unemployed friends. Between the unemployment they got when they lost their job waiting tables and the $600 each of them was getting from uncle Sam, they were making more now then they were before. So they have no desire nor interest in going back to work. I cut her off 10 years ago and now it's time for uncle Sam to do the same.

Moral to the story, don't let you kids get worthless degrees in college.

You hear stories of folks getting their $600/week check and now that it could be cut off, they are complaining that they will get evicted. But I'm sure they have new electronics, toys, etc.

How did they pay the rent before losing job?

Again, HELL NO. I have personally been told by some folks they are making more with the gov't check than when working and was even offered same job to return to and declined. Still getting that $600 check though. BS. Just turn the printing presses back on and watch our economy fail. We ain't seen the worst yet.

I have done a lot of reading on this. Only 16% of the folks on unemployment say the amount is the driving factor behind not going back to work. Child care, job openings, fear of getting the virus, and low paying jobs are much bigger reasons. The federal piece needs to be reduced so no one gets more then 70% but a lot of states will struggle to implement. Heck there were a lot that struggled to just pay the $600. These states have 50 year old computer systems. I agree there are a lot of jobs available but companies are seeing this as an opportunity to cut pay. There are sectors of the job market that are severely depressed right now. Managerial job postings in Dallas are down 40+% from January. I read every day about people being offered 50% of what they were making. Ivanka's message on learning a new skill is a noble one but not a quick solution.

The best reason for the $600 is to "buy votes" and it is being used by both sides of the aisle. Same with most of the provisions of the CARES Act.

50% of what they were making is better than 0% of what they are making. Humility is a tough pill to swallow, but when you look at your family needing a roof, 3 meals, and some security then selfishness of pride goes out the window

Not a fan of the $600, but I also do not see many help wanted signs here in the Permian Basin. More layoffs coming.

Nope. Make those lazy [censored] pathetic people get back to flipping burgers, my wife’s aunt is one of them. She works in medical billing, she has elected to remain working 32 hours a week because she can claim some form of unemployment and actually makes more money. I’m hoping she gets caught and has to repay a lot of it.

The BIG SURPRISE will be when next year's tax time rolls around. No withholding and fully taxable. Just like W2 wages, taxable.

My brother-in-law makes $25 at a assembly plant in Colorado. He brings home about $600 more every two weeks being unemployed.
