Recently, in a moment of pure insanity, I told my rather glum wife that she needed to buy something to cheer herself up. You married guys know how that helps with pouting wives. Well...the law of unintended consequences has come to visit and to bite me square on the a__. She bought an Apple Watch, the one you can use as a wrist phone. It seemed harmless for a while, until she started messing with it. Then s___ started happening. And, speaking for the entire IT department, which is little ol me, this ain’t good. All afternoon she’s been over in her favorite chair grumbling and muttering and fiddling with that watch. I had her bring it to me, went on the internet for the fix and had it working fine in 5 minutes. Now she’s messing with it again. This can’t end well...

So....my thoughts at this point:

1. Don’t buy electronics that are too advanced or complicated for the user.
2. Don’t let ANYONE know you can deal with Apple problems.
3. Buy shiny things for the wife rather than electronic things.

Thank god my wife doesn't want an Apple Watch. I hate seeing people on those things. She's fine with her phone, iPad, and laptop. I did make her happy this morning when I killed another squirrel in the backyard. Gammo for the win.

Decook, we have kids and grandkids, but they aren’t closer than 2 hours by car. Much closer by phone for sure, but them trying to explain something to the wife over the phone doesn’t work well.

My honest problem is that for me to unscrew anything she does to the watch requires me to totally understand the watch and how it thinks. I have zero interest reading and studying the Apple Watch for hours just to be tech support. I have carefully explained to her that she needs to do the studying and fixing, but I suspect she won’t ever be able to do that. To put it mildly, she isn’t tech capable. Of course, I didn’t marry her for her tech competency. Neither did I see the world becoming so electronically advanced and diverse.

I bought her a dang Rolex 3 years ago, but apparently she needs a watch that will converse with her. The Rolex is silent, though it is at least a shiny object.

Go shiny or take her somewhere nice you both can enjoy.
By the way, I’m going from Waco to Buffalo right now—isn’t that your part of the world.

Freerange, if you go through Groesbeck on your drive, you are real close to me. About 8 miles, I think. 254 385 0148 if you want to come by. Visitors are good.

Bill, I actually did make the vacuum cleaner gift mistake. Bad, but not as bad as when a BiL bought his non-hunting wife a shotgun AND a bird dog for Christmas. That was ugly.

And I finally gave in to her griping and muttering and took the dang watch and unscrewed it. She’s quiet now and making supper.

I completely meant give it to a kid and walk away. The last thing you want to do is follow instructions over the phone. That poor watch would be up against a brick wall in minutes. I'd lend you one of my kids but they are 2+ hours away too I'm guessing. Well, you could make a new brood of kids right? If you could pry them away from the talking watch they could help around the ranch too..

603, I figure you made that offer thinking I would drop by an fix the watch. Problem is I’m low tech an no time to stop anyway. I come through Groesbeck twice a month usually Sunday afternoon so I would like to take you up on your kind offer some time.

The young man across the street works in IT, I break it, he fixes it, if the wife breaks it, he fixes it.
