I currently have a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 1-6x24 and its nice enough, but I'd like to upgrade to something in the 1-8 range. What are the best options under $1k? Also prefer 30mm tube

I like the Primary Arms 1-8 ACSS. For a 308 or 5.56, the reticle is set up amazingly well. It's $400 with tax.

I like the Sightmark 1-10x-24...the only negative is you cannot zero the turrets...they are under cap and like the old Leupold VX1. Glass is amazingly clear and the circle reticle always gets positive comments by those who look at it.

I’ve heard positive comments from that scope that Scott posted above too.

German Precision Optics 1-8. I own one. Nice glass, FFP, zero stop, built like a tank......I have no problems killing with it out to 200 yards with the reticle.......
