Just saw an ad for it: 30-30 Win, 450 Bushmaster, 45-74 Govt, 300 Blackout, 9mm Luger, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. Has anyone had a chance to use any of it? They claim that it represents the first truly reliable expanding subsonic ammunition line. Suppressed or unsupressed, they're supposed to work.

The 300 blk out WILL need a suppressor to get it to cycle and AR. There's not enough pressure otherwise. The Sub-X bullets I've seen pictures of recovered from animals had minimal expansion, if any at all. Plus, on the scale of velocity, they are slower in velocity than most subs. They often run 850-950 fps, where you can get up to about 1050 fps and still be safely subsonic. And if you run a short barrel, they will be even slower.

Sounds like Hornady's marketing department got a bit ahead of themselves! It happens all the time; and the poor old techs are left with explaining why the products don't perform as advertised! Thanks for the heads-up, Chad.

Thanks for the heads-up, Chad. Chad's subsonic research is legit, for every cartridge. It's been loaded, shot, chronographed, tested for groups, and often tested in more than one rifle. Did Hornady do that?

My EDC is Hornady HST 9mm 147gr. I've tested them in a 3 inch barrel and a 16 inch AR9. I was VERY impressed with how they expanded and held their weight.
