I don’t currently out side of pre-k. I do pay for extra programs like Gideon

I’d pay for private school, extra tutoring etc, if it was warranted. Meaning if I had a school district I didn’t think was a stellar learning environment. I think k-12 is more important then college, it’s a foundation for either success or excuses/projections.

100%.

How much are you saving per kid per month?

I saw a calculator that estimates a state college in Texas costs about $40K a year for tuition and books in 2032.

I had a little help with college ($5K) which helped me get started the first year when I went. Just hoping I can give my kids a little better leg up in life.

We started an investment account with $25k and pay in about $200 a month and then some with taxes. When he goes to college around 2037 it’s expected to be around $240-$280k for a bachelors degree. We should have about $180-$200k in there by then.

That should be more than enough.

We just paid as they went. The two years when both of our sons were in college at the same time wasn't cheap!

My wifes nephew is starting Texas State this fall, he already has his associates degree, they told him it will still take 3 years of schooling and estimated cost of $75,000 all in. Apparently he still has to take to "core" classes even though he technically has them done.

Well, that just piss poor planning.
Both my daughters went Texas A&M College Station, straight from HS with about 10-12 college credits that would transfer from AP classes and will be done with their Bachelors degree in 3 and a half years. Took the first daughter 3.5 to graduate.
Second one is there now and will be done 3.5 for sure and maybe only 3 years, she just completed her first full year this spring.

Cost for most state schools are about the same roughly, tuition and fees cost me around 10-12,000 per year, first daughter was a little over $10,000 second daughter is closer to $12,000. Figure apartment, housing, and food this should be more accurate cost.

This is what we are being told as well.

If either of my boys can't make $10k/year during college then they have no business being there in the first place. They can play beer pong, hang out at the pool, chase coeds and screw off AFTER the bills are paid, just like I had to do when I was in my 20's. I had a hell of a lot of fun in my early 20's ( really my entire 20's ) but work/business always came first.

I'll be a lot more lenient with the baby girl, but at 6 years old she already shows much more work ethic than her brothers so i probably won't have to worry

I went to college without a car. Don't see much of that anymore.

We plan on using our rental properties to help cover any college costs that come up. Our first three properties will have over 18 years of equity when/ if our daughter goes to college. At that point we could either use the cash-flow from those (or any other properties we purchase between now and then), do a cash out re-fi or just sell the properties if we needed a larger lump sum of cash.

So I guess we aren't really saving, just buying assets that will pay for the college.

Smart man. Cash flowing property is the gift that keeps on giving.
