I guess this should be in the classifieds but ive never posted a new thread there before and I didnt see an option for doing that.
Im looking to buy a tower for a stand thats at least 15' and preferably 20' to the floor/base. Ive been known to drive all over to get what I want so anywhere probably ok. Dont need a box on top but would consider it depending on what it is and price.

I got 4 pieces of drilling pipe and made one,, I think they are 20' long , each. Any welder can put it together.

Big Country blinds make a really heavy and well made tower that you can bolt together. I bought a 10' one with a new blind from Mumme's in Hondo. Have to check to see if they make one taller...IIRC they only make 5' and 10' though. Mine has zero wobble or movement after two months in place now.

Sorry, I should have specified I want used. I own about a jillion deer stands so if I buy another it needs to be at used prices.
I like the drill pipe idea which I have thought about before but I never see those around so I guess I figured there was a down side. I guess it would be heavy but that should be a positive.

if you want cheap, make your own ... drill stem, square tubing, angle ... easy to make plenty strong using enough X braces.

we make our own....which will probably lead to our demise..

currently making them out of square tubing but have used drill stem as well.....I recommend square tubing...drill stem is too heavy IMO...and it's easier to drill and cross brace the square tube

wouldnt the drill stem be considerably cheaper? I can see how the square tubing would be easier to work with. If you used drill stem couldnt you use it for any cross bracing and just weld it all? I can see it being heavy but seems like besides handling it, it would be good to be heavy once it was up. Im not a do it yourselfer but I know a welder.

yes, drill stem is cheaper...the stands I build can be collapsed and moved if necessary so square tube works for us....

don't know where you're located but there's a listing on CL for 2-7/8 drill stem at $1.50/ft in the Rockwall area

Thanks Schpanky. I put together a 20' tower before and it took forever to assemble and it had a whole bunch of shift in it when through. I figured I would have it built as wide as a trailer and just weld it all. I know thats not a real wide base for that height but we tie them down good.

I would take the base (foot print) out to maximum legal hauling limit without a permit, 8'6" and let it ride up on the siderails of the trailer. Also use caution when trailering it as the height will be 8'6" plus the trailer & side rails tall, might creep into ceilings at some gas stations, low hanging power lines, trees, etc.

yep, a 20' tower completely made out of drill stem including X bracing will be a heavy mo-dinker. I sure hope you have a tractor with FEL and/or a good winch to hoist that puppy up ... then lots of guy wires to solid anchors or established trees for wind prevention.

PMK, lots of detailed advise for sure. As I tell people, almost no one puts up stands for a living much less me but we do have lots of experience. Still it’s a learning experience every time and often a rodeo!! This first one I put up completely by myself and hardest part was attaching blind to tower. Wind was really blowing and once it went up I had to shimmy up that tree for a quick temp tie off. This one has a more narrow footprint than the 8’6” we talking about. We tie them down good. I think the weight of drill stem would spread out the weight and be less top heavy than these....?

21ish--both towers almost identical. Guy wired 4 times at halfway point and then again from the top. Upper wires fairly heavy cable to trees with turnbuckles.
