Just acquired a new lease west of San Angelo in Tom green county. Just curious what the hunting is like there. Are there good bucks there? Any exotics?

Depends on how far west and the size of your lease and neighbors around it. The genetics in most of TG county are pretty good for spread, long brow tines and big framed 8pts. I have seen some LF deer killed on larger ranches that were really good deer score wise. Some areas are hunted harder than others also. The western part of the county has been in drought conditions since the late 90's it seems like most years. They just seem to miss the rains that come thru their...at least my friends place does.

Thanks a lot for the response! Our lease is about 1000 acres and about 15 to 20 min outside of San Angelo. Not huge but not super small either. According to the leaser we’re surrounded by 4 and 5 thousand acre tracts. So hopefully it will be decent. My friend and mines previous lease was in Eldorado. We harvested a couple 120” bucks and one around 150”. If we can do the same in Tom green I’ll be happy.

There are some nice deer in that area . I hunt outside Water Valley. Deer in the 130's are common. Best taken on our place over the last 8 years was mid 150's. Low fence, no protein.
