Looking for a new rain gear set. I am big say, 48-50 waist, 52 XXXL jacket, want lightweight (Texas Deer Hunting) . Budget is $300 for top and bottom. Would rather do pants not bibs

Looked at Cabelas, they got terrible reviews . Really can't do $1500 for Sitka etc. I hunt 3-4 times Texas not Alaska

Buzz this is what I use from Idaho backcountry to wade fishing Baffin Bay. What ever rain gear you decide on I highly suggest put zips on jacket. I don’t use rain pants so I’m not much help there, but I wouldn’t get any with out full length zippers, so you can vent at the hips

I love my MT from Cabela's. Bought a used set from at THF member and picked up to other sets (2 different) sizes on clearance. I hunted bear hunted and fished a solid fall week in Canada downpour rains every day while sitting in tree and I did not get one drop wet.

I used frogg toggs for a long time and they keep you dry, are light, and breathe relatively well. I got rid of them though because of how loud they were. It was fine for a downpour while wing shooting, but it wouldn't work for any other type of hunt.

I've virtually completely swapped over to sitka, so an amended answer wouldn't help you. I'd go to scheels and check out their selection of camo since it's larger than Cabelas.

I have Frogg Toggs too, I always take them fishing. I'll check the MT 50's and thanks for the good reason to go to Sheels.

Shine due to noise factor. But you pay for less noise. I wouldn’t feel good now hunting in sub 300 (for the set) gear unless I wasn’t being serious and just hoping for a doe or young buck.

For sub 300 & gun hunting, I would be looking at either cabelas branded space rain gear or non hinting brand like what BOBO or others have suggested. In Texas, you could probably get away with some DWR gear rather than pure waterproof gear too, esp of sitting under a tree or something somewhat protected.

That's what I use. Bought it 9 years ago before an Alaska trip and it's been a trooper. Not sure if they still carry the MT stuff after the BPS buy out.

I preferred using a poncho over raingear. If it was cold and raining, I did not participate on those days. It never mattered getting my lower legs and boots wet unless it was cold. But a poncho kept both me and my gear pretty dry, somewhere in my junk room I have a Gore Tex poncho. light weight that rolls up into a nice small package.

If you are planning to hunt in south Texas all you need is a pair of goggles to keep the dust out of your eyes.

Yep, 2 ponchos in my day pack. one for over bow/gun if needed and other I put over my daypack that if tripod, treestand hunting I drap over daypack that is attached to stand/tree.

I’ve used Cabelas packable MT 50 rainwear with goretex lining for years. They were a great product but I don’t know if they’ve been cheapened by BassPro.

I fox call with a Ruger Single Nine 22 WMR and absolutely love it. If I can get them to hold still, I can generally get them killed at 35-40 steps with stock sights. Also do a little deer and axis hunting with the Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag with a Trijicon RMR on it. I recently purchased a couple of the Ruger Single Sevens and plan to do some hog and deer hunting with the 327 Federal Mag ammo. I really like the Single Seven as I can shoot everything from 32 shorts to longs, to 32 H&R Mag, to the 327 Fed Mag ammo. i am also doing a little calling with the Ruger 57.

Your a lucky guy to be able to do what you do. You buy and sell so much I can't keep up. Good for you paying to have the hunts you want, you earned it. I'm still gonna give you hell though.
