To my THF gurus need help. So many yrs ago I built what I thought to be the ultimate meat grinder. It is a similar like a Weston 32 but I took the hand crank off and put the fly wheel for a belt and motor.
I paired it with a 1/2 HP electric motor and even installed a foot on/off switch.
I thought I built the ultimate DIY meat grinder. After just a couple of attempts this thing seems to really, well sukk. Can't hardly grind anything. Is a 1/2 HP not enough muscle for this?
I have seen the threads, videos etc. keep the meat almost frozen blah blah. I thought this thing would eat meat and spit it out like no ones business. Any help would be appreciated.

Look at the speed of the auger. If it still seems too fast as compared to a commercial grinder then get a bigger pully for the auger. 1/2 HP should do it, 3/4 to 1 is better. Don't let it rotate go too fast, heat friction between the knives to the cutting plate is your enemy.

A pic of your current set up would help.

My father built one years ago and had about a 2 inch pulley on the motor and a 10 inch on the grinder. I would not clog and could be fed as fast as you wanted. I dont know the power of the motor, but it was from a washing machine.
