This coming dove season, im going to have to travel to the lands near Carmine.

Im wondering how packed do they get?

My initial plan is to take 1st and 2nd day of the season opener off from work and head there.
Then during midday, go to Somerville PHL to swap my trail cam cards and do more scouting for upcoming bow season.

I was working in Giddings last hunting season and I told my self I would go check out those spots since I drove by them daily. I ended up failing on that, I was always headed home early afternoon. I didn't want to sit and hang around for the evening to see what was flying around. I really wanted to take advantage of them since I was up in that area.

I have been out there a 3-4 times on the first day or two of the season. I have always seen a few other hunters, but never large numbers like I have found on the areas closer to Houston. Unfortunately I have never seen many doves either.

I have not scouted these areas this year yet, but the last couple of years the goat weeds have not been as thick as they were say 5 years ago.

I suggest waiting to scout until the new data is published. Often the last few years the public land available in the Houston area has changed. Properties have had boundary changes or totally dropped from one year to the next.

yeah, hopefully the new map will be out soon and be able to plan accordingly. Im getting anxious.

I have some wooded property near Dime Box (not good for dove hunting), and had no idea until recently there was public hunting land so close by (Nails Creek Unit 711). I know there's a permit to buy, but other than that I have no ideal what the rules are and how it all works. Access looks limited, so I'm wondering if 4 wheelers are allowed as well.
