To me a huge issue for any piece of land is --------- what's around it?? If you are in the middle of 2,000 acre ranches that is one thing,,,if you are surrounded by 20 acre parcels that is totally different. It is a simple matter to answer this question ------------ go to xyz county CAD ------- click on interactive map, zoom in on your area, and it will give you a view of every piece of land and what the boundaries are ----- if you want to know more , each piece has a number on it,,, click on that and it will bring up the owner, the exact acreage, taxes, etc etc. I"m posting a pic of part of Bell county, just to give you an idea of what you will see. -------- Hope this is useful info to some of you.

Be very careful. Most County CAD sites have approximate acreage and boundaries. You are better off taking the time to put eyes and feet on the property.

I used to use a print out booklet county cad map in Arkansas for a couple counties (before they were on computer) to do exactly this. Was able to gain permission to hunt on lots of tracts.

great post. I plan to do this. I knew you could do this but online is more feasible. Don't have time to go visit towns digging for info. Good starting place, I've been eyeing a couple places with seemingly AWOL owners and plan to use this

Used it for years to find out all kinds of things.

Google earth

Used local CAD's as well - in urban/suburban environments they are very precise due to registered surveys. In rural places it seem even when land has been broken up into smaller tracts it takes awhile for the CAD to catch up.

OnX Hunt is an app and is much more detailed as far as boundaries go.

Yes I have used it for years now. The acreages are generally correct on the CAD map but not always. If you are looking for LO info it may not always be correct or up to date or even on the public records. The new phone apps for hunting do work really good also from the ones I have seen. I will use a Google Planimeter to go over the acreage to see if it matches the CAD info also. All are great for leasing a place to hunt or for cattle to verify acreage and LO info.
