No problem Red, I certainly don't think it is standard procedure to get that many mpg's but it has been proven by my son and many on that forum I linked that it can happen more than just occasionally. Thanks for the feedback, and glad to know yours has been reliable. This is a "want" deal, definitely not a "need". Appreciate the help.

I trashed the itty bitty Eco diesel when it came out. I didn’t see the point. One of my friends has first gen diesel and been good to him. I could see 30 mpg. I can see 19/20 in a F250, just wouldn’t be the one getting that for multiple reasons... lol

I think I’d buy a long travel 30mpg diesel.

The 2020 Ram 1500's Fuel Economy Is Drastically Worse Than Advertised

I actually read that report

Quote
That the 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel EcoDiesel returned 24 mpg in our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test is remarkable by itself. But when considered against the 18 mpg returned by its counterpart, the Ram 1500 Rebel equipped with a gasoline-burning 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, the diesel is truly compelling. Its fuel-economy number, however, comes with at least one caveat. Both trucks we tested were all-wheel-drive Rebel off-road models with the same final-drive ratios, tires, and cab and bed configurations. But despite Fiat Chrysler's bold insistence that the EcoDiesel will be on sale before the end of the year, it has not yet received EPA emissions certification. The EPA's fuel-economy estimates are still forthcoming as well. Put simply, there's no way to know if the engine calibration we tested here will be the one Ram will eventually sell.

Don't quote me but I am pretty sure Ram re-flashed all the 2020s (gassers for sure) prior to putting them on the market - I think it's noted on the window stickers. I know my 2020 1500 5.7 does at least. EcoDiesel would have been nice....I sure ain't gonna see 24+ mpg with 3.92s

Things i have seen with mine.

I have 3.55 gears, knowing i do not drive much over 70 i wish i would have gotten the 3.92 gears for towing, but the 3.55's do pretty good.

It is a dual overhead cam engine, it winds up well, you will find if your looking for performance/speed/towing it will like to be over 2000 rpm, which many have ingrained in their mind diesel = low rpm, use tow/haul and let it do its thing.

The coil springs suck AZZ, leaf springs from 30 years prior in 1/2 ton trucks carry and handle a load better. Air bags or weight distribution is a necessity if your going to haul a camper or similar

Let it warm up before you hammer on it

Get it out on the hwy and work it ever once in a while the emissions stuff wont do well with put put city driving

The transmission is awesome, dodge/ram must have gotten tired of people trash talking their trash trannies because they hit it out of the park with the ZF!

I tow a 24 foot center console regularly with mine and have towed a 30-foot 7500 lb camper a few times and it did well.

When you are getting on the on ramp with a load you will wonder about it because it doesnt have the HP to just get up and go with a load quickly, but once you reach cruise speed it is smooth and efficient.

They come with 2 transfer cases, one is a part time part number 44-45(this is the good one) the other is a full time/has auto 44 setting, it is driven by a clutch system and if you ever need 4x4 for much or anything it is not what you want, it comes in most of the higher trim level trucks, im not sure if you can get away from it in them, but i wouldn't own one.

Im probably going to put a gooseneck in mine within a year or so, we will see how it goes.

The RAM diesel is nice, but the 2020 GM 1500 diesel is where its at if MPG is truly what your looking for. Averaging over 30 MPG through all the big magazine tests and some are getting close to 40 mpg when going to extreme MPG measures. Its just a shame the GM cant have the interior of the RAM.
