JMO. I always wear my vest, but it's kind
of pointless if you don't put on a ballistic
helmet with the vest

Seriously? Are you really that afraid? Wear your orange and go hunt.

If your on public land deer or hog hunting, almost all if not all areas require you to wear so many inches of orange. The only time I was shot at hunting was on private land by a guest hunter. If I had been wearing orange, I doubt he would have thought I was the coyote he thought he was shooting at.

If your that worried about hunting public land that you think you have to wear body armor, I would not do it.

You aren't going on patrol in Afghanistan and don't need a vest. As the others have said put on the required orange, saddle up and go have fun.

It gets crazy in East Texas. Hell, I've seen people not even leave their trucks to hunt just out of fear. They just stay right on the road.

I always thought we were supposed to keep that a secret. If everyone knew a hunting lease was more crowded than the National Forests more people would use them roflmao

I aint seen any crackheads but you might run into a pot growing operation if you're not careful. They busted 2 of those in recent years, one at White Oak Creek WMA and the other at Cooper.

Oh yeah, I run into some gorilla grows all the time...never actually ran into anyone at the gorilla grow to worry about...but yeah the national forests have all kinds of ganja growing in them lol. Most people won't run into one because they don't walk more than 100 yards in... if you're the kind of hunter that walks for miles, you'll probably run into some eventually. Even if you don't see anyone around, I wouldn't stick around the area long ... you never know who that gorilla grow belongs to.... could just be a local pothead who would be disappointed someone found his grow or could be a damn cartel that tries to murder you and your family...either way, best to not get involved.

Now, concerning the actual topic of this thread... no, no reason to wear body armor. The average number of deaths in the US by lightning strike is 51. The average number of deaths in the US and Canada by hunting accident where one is shot by another hunter is 78 - and that number bottoms out when we are talking specifically about national forests and state parks in the US because hunting is highly regulated in those areas.....hunter orange and all that.

I believe the operation at WOC had a trip line booby trap if I'm not mistaken. And the one at Cooper was only about 100 yards from one of my favorite tree stand spots. eek2

You can smell it before you see it. I will admit I was a little concerned when I realized that was not a skunk my dog had found.
