I like to use my Weber grill occasionally. I've been buying Royal Oak lump charcoal and have been happy with it over the years. The last few bags I've bought have contained really small chips and are certainly Not even close what I consider lump. Do you have a particular brand that you're happy with? I'm usually pretty brand loyal but their quality has really gone downhill.

I've noticed the same thing. I quit using it but haven't yet found a replacement.

I used to use Cowboy and was happy with it.

Decent quality but occasionally found rocks or hardened clay in it.

B&B

All of it can vary on where you purchase it. If stockers are chunking the bags like feed sacks it's gonna break.

I try to get the ones still on the pallet and not the ones already placed on the shelves.

I've used Cowboy and B&B, both are good coal.

I use mesquite lump charcoal, Viva Pancho or the other brand from Mehico that I can't remember now. Always nice pieces.

Agree. I've not been happy with the last 2 bags I've opened. I have one more to go thru and then I'm looking around.

If you want big, look at Fogo brand. I tried it before and it's great. Not cheap though.

Bought some Kamoda Joe labeled lump and for the most part the chunks were above average in size.

Pretty much used Webers most of my life, I'm a Kingsford fan for charcoal for grilling or roasting and back it with some wood if I'm smoking.

I noticed the same thing but it was back when Home Depot dropped the price a year or two ago. Still use it for quick cooking, when I have time its mesquite or oak wood burned down to coals.

Restaraunt Depot used to carry 50# bags of mesquite lump pretty cheap, haven't been in there in a while.

I can't eat food cooked on charcoal, it seems to make me burp charcoal and gives me indigestion for a long time. I like the flavor but can't deal with it anymore.

That is probably because they use lighter fluid to light the charcoal.

Do not ever use lighter fluid in a Kamado, btw. Might as well throw that BGE, Kamado in the trash.
