Toilet paper, meat and now coins. Apparently some stores such as Kroger, are not giving people change anymore.

Saw this on the news a few days ago. They're putting the change amount on your reward card as a credit. That's fine with me.

It will take a day or so for all the stores to get it implemented.

My wife was in one earlier today and was going to be shorted about.75 in a small cash purchase....when she asked about the change was told they didn’t have any....she walked leaving the items and taking her money....

It’s not the amount, it’s the principal....

If they don’t want to give out change then round down, not up...

Done with Kroger

I think this is a great idea. It may be a new trend for all companies and it would be an incentive to come back to buy more.

Agree 100%, I only pay with cash and will not deal with the circus. I’ll leave a whole basket behind over that nonsense. Time lost be darned.

Yep. I've had discussions with some smart people that suggested this covid overreaction may be related to that in some way.

Quick Trip convenience stores had signs up 3 weeks ago about coin shortage, said they will start giving back gift certificates if it does happen

My car wash now take debit cards.

Also, someone posted up a picture of a 5 gallon jug full of quarters and gave a prize to the THFer who guessed the closest to the value.

Since the Kroger here started this, Just make sure I have enough change in my pocket to deal with it. I bet many of us have a cache of coins just bring your own change.

I actually have a lot of change, I'm not sure how much . Over the years, I just emptied my pocket change into a container and now it's about 5 gallons of coins. If there is a shortage, does anyone know if someone is buying regular change at a premium?

no, but i just took mine to Loves. They have coin counters and no fee like Coinstar has. Cashed in $130 but kept my piker and car wash change. Speaking of car washes i wonder what they are doing. Loves was really hurting for quarters.

Doesn’t help you down there but there is a bank in the Panhandle offering 10% cash back for change up to $500
