Not now! Lord, butchering one now would be a footrace in this heat!

No, I'm looking for one in the fall once things are starting to cool off a bit.

I'm not looking for a "hunt"...this is grocery shopping with a rifle. You point; I shoot. I do all the knife work. You help me load the old gal and I'm gone.

The closer to Coleman County, the better.

Shoot me information via PM. Thanks!

Mark

There is the Mescalero Reservation in New Mexico-$655 and I've tried to get info but no reply multiple times. I've read guys have had troubles and I'm not sure but a "guide" translate tip- might be involved. You have to use a modern rifle- I wanted to use a muzzleloader since it's a cow elk- add something to the hunt.

Red deer hinds are in that price range.

How do they taste? I don't mind shooting cows, etc. if I can increase the sport of it or try out a new gun, such as a traditional round ball muzzle loader.

Thanks for the info, Dave Scott. My wife and I took a pair of cows west of Raton a few years back just south of the Colorado line. Beautiful country but I won't drive that far again when cow elk can be had much closer to me. And while I take my hunting very seriously, this is grocery shopping, pure and simple!

Red deer hind are very tastey! The flavor and tenderness are much like elk.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread , but what would be the difference in the amount of meat between a Red Hind and a Cow Elk ?
