The Old thread got me thinking. A dangerous thing indeed.

IF, a big if, the drink manufacturers started bottling in tough returnable bottles, would the public (the kids) go and search out the bottles to claim the bounty. That concept kept the roads and highways picked clean when I was picking them.

I have a little hope...

I doubt it. I use to see folks picking up cans on the side of the road, but haven't seen that in years.

They’d make videos about it to show the world how virtuous they are, but when nobody is looking, they’d do nothing.

Several states and a few countries have deposits on bottles. You pay it when you buy it and then get your money back if you return the bottles, some also include cans. This is basically a method to keep people/slobs from littering, also a form of tax income.

I thought a big part of the decision to use the light, thin, plastic made from biodegradable products was because people won’t go pick trash from roads, streams, shorelines etc....

JMHO- all that is just like fees on plastic grocery bags, taxing ammo,
red light cameras, etc. etc.

The problem is PEOPLE THAT DON'T DO RIGHT
If you throw something down and litter, you need
a large fine. If you can't obey simple, easy to understand
rules, you need to be punished or taken out of circulation
to where you can't do damage or harm to those
who are willing and able to follow simple rules.

I'm reminded of school when little Johnny threw a
spit ball and the whole class had to write sentences,
or we all had to run laps, etc.

PUNISH THE ONE PERSON THAT DOES WRONG,
NOT THE WHOLE EM EFFIN BUNCH .
If it hurts their little feelings, well too damn bad

No they would not do it but they would want to be in the management roll telling everyone else how to do it.

I pick them up but do not save them to reload.

Same here with shotgun hulls. It was a dead give away for covey locations but it was the right thing to do.

Well, the idea there is that the rest of the class would hand out little Johnny's real punishment later. smile It doesn't work if you don't let them take care of business.

Yes, they still do it in Michigan after the roadsides had become pretty trashy. They charge the deposit up front and pay back on return. When I was in college I could make a few hundred bucks in one day cleaning up after the tailgaters at a football game.

Yep

.
Yup

Most of the world today knows nothing of hard physical labor, much less picking up litter. Which is not hard physical labor, but they think it is.

I’ve been working in Ohio the last few days. I’m not impressed by the work ethic of the locals, but I’m dang impressed by how clean the countryside is. I can count on one hand the pieces of trash I’ve seen in the bar ditches. This place is well kept and beautiful. I can’t say that about very many places I’ve traveled in Texas, which is extensive.

Singleuse plastic containers are going to come to an end at some point in time. When I was in Sweden and Norway last year the milk I drank was packaged in a new type of cellulose bottle thats biodegradable. (their milk isnt in a cooler. Its on the shelf like canned goods are)

Speaking of milk, I love the stuff, I think Im addicted to it. Ice cold 2% is my drink of choice and I still go through a gallon every three days and thats after cutting way back to lose weight. Up until a few years ago when I experienced an abrupt gain in weight, I was drinking a gallon a day. I could (and have) chugged a gallon in one sitting when I was young and got hot and thirsty, like some folks chug ice cold beer. And Chocolate Almond milk diluted 50/50 with white milk, that stuff is so good, its like liquid heroin. I never grow tired of it. One of the perks of being in the army was the unlimited milk at the mess hall.

Now want a glass of milk smile
