Had 5 coons on the back porch last night, that's about 4 to many ! What's the best trap y'all have used ? I can't shoot them cause I live inside the city limits but the last one I caught which was huge tore out thru my tractor supply trap.

Get a dog proof trap and a baseball bat. No shooting involved.

Another vote for the DP traps and the ball bat. Silent and deadly.

Dukes are good. My primary target has been the squirrels that decimate my pecans, so been running three live traps continuously. Here's one day/overnight catch recently. You'd think I lived in the country, not in town Ft Worth--

Thanks for the advise I beefed up my traps by adding some stiff reinforcement wire around the sides caught 3 this morning.

Yep, we have 2 live traps in the back yard (burbs) and are constantly catching possums, rats, and cats. No squirrel yet but my wife would be overjoyed if we caught one...or a dozen! Damn things play heck with her garden.

If u r going to use dog proof traps. Then go with z traps. I run up to 8 dz dog proof traps in trapping season duke , little grizz, diablo . I run mostly dukes. But have a dz or so of grizz and z traps too. The z trap has push triggers. I will be changing some more over to push to also. I have looked and looked the live traps over. 98% of the live traps r frameless. Freedom brand makes a frame trap. On them if wire gets bad replace it. I got sick of looking them over. So I bought a good wire welder started making my own. For coons I make 12x12x36. For Bobcats 18x10x36 or 20x10x36. I have at the most in each trap less than 40.00 each. Try to buy a bobcat live trap for 40.00. Hope by time season gets here to have 12 bobcat live traps made too use. Just making mine in my spare time. I use 1/4 smooth rod to make the frame and trigger. Make your own u can build like u want and its fun.

I am welding up a 20x12x 36 for Bobcats. Try my hand at live trapping a bobcat.

Use peanut butter for bait. I had one coon pull a 9MM on me and tell me "Put the peanut butter down and step back."

I've tried a lot of different baits for coons, but have found the easiest and best bait I have found is plain old cheap fish flavored dry cat food. I have had marshmallows melted down inside the Duke's traps and things like that, but the dry cat food is not a problem.

Another vote for the DPs. Turn the captive into a non living entity, wrap it up tight in a black plastic trash bag and chuck it in a dumpster somewhere.

I know nothing!

I've been told it is really hard to get a bobcat in a cage trap.

Bobcats are hard to lure into a metal trap.
Around chicken coops they will get used to the wire,
The colder the weather is the better chance they will be less concerned about the wire.
The better the bait will draw them in chicken ,rabbit ,bird ,squirrel or lil pig meat.
I would wire bait to back of pedal so if they reached over pedal n try to steal bait
they will trip the trap when they pick up the bait.
I would look for a area that would have a lot of food source rabbits running around and set traps
in that location.I have trapped a lot of bobcats in live traps that i have built.
Just to help keep your heart rate down make sure the door is latched shut before you lift it up on end n door will swing open n face to face with a bobcat.
Good job on the coon trapping sad hides dont bring any money.

On the cages, sort of a silent group that uses them. It is a "sort of a cubbie" but I wonder what is the best place. If a bobcat likes to slink along a wall, along a fallen tree, etc.. Not much written on using cages.

Bobcat will walk a tree line with a fence or use a dry creek to move around.
I will put traps on a fence line in the trees or close to a large tree with the
back of the trap up next to a tree to make a block with the tree to keep
the trap door the easier focus point.
Tomahawk traps are really good traps.
