I've been told it is really hard to get a bobcat in a cage trap.

Bobcats are hard to lure into a metal trap. Around chicken coops they will get used to the wire, The colder the weather is the better chance they will be less concerned about the wire. The better the bait will draw them in chicken ,rabbit ,bird ,squirrel or lil pig meat. I would wire bait to back of pedal so if they reached over pedal n try to steal bait they will trip the trap when they pick up the bait. I would look for a area that would have a lot of food source rabbits running around and set traps in that location.I have trapped a lot of bobcats in live traps that i have built. Just to help keep your heart rate down make sure the door is latched shut before you lift it up on end n door will swing open n face to face with a bobcat. Good job on the coon trapping sad hides dont bring any money.

On the cages, sort of a silent group that uses them. It is a "sort of a cubbie" but I wonder what is the best place. If a bobcat likes to slink along a wall, along a fallen tree, etc.. Not much written on using cages.

Bobcat will walk a tree line with a fence or use a dry creek to move around. I will put traps on a fence line in the trees or close to a large tree with the back of the trap up next to a tree to make a block with the tree to keep the trap door the easier focus point. Tomahawk traps are really good traps.
