 moldy smell when i turn on tahoe AC

So as soon as we get in my wifes Tahoe..(2015) it smells like a nasty moldy gym sock.. it lasts a few minutes and then pretty much goes away... Have yall had this or have any ideas on how to fix it? The cabin filter is new..

Probably an old moldy gym sock underneath the seat - sorry, couldn't help it!

Probably an old moldy gym sock underneath the seat - sorry, couldn't help it! That is my immediate thought, something is marinating in there.

Bob, if the drain was backed up would it still be dripping out under the car? It is dripping a lot

Somehow some of the water is not completely draining. Might be as simple as a little dust accumulated in there and every time you crank it up it gets wet and smells like an old moldy towel for awhile.

Ok, so bad analogy on the gym sock.. haha.. smells really moldy and there are no garments in the car...LOL... any idea on how to check drain?

I even ran some AC cleaner through the outside intake vents and it worked for about a week but the smell is back..

As humid as it has been you can still get water dripping due to condensation on the AC components (expansion valve, receiver dryer, bare metal lines )where they enter the firewall.

Or you could hang one of them air freshners from the rearview mirror.
This is probably a function of the humidity and warmness. Vents get cold, condensation builds and then you get out and the car sits for 24 hours. I bet if you took a several our trip with the AC on that smell might go away. Might also put a pan of charcoal under a seat (or both). If you can find some spray Lysol bomb the intake for a minute or so.
R U running it on recirc or fresh air?
FTR, my GMC does the same sometimes.

usually just run it on normal fan.. its the wifes car so she is in it everyday and im trying to figure it out for her..

Does one just shoot that into the vents ? Looks like the way to go ! If it were my Tahoe, I’d do what you suggested sir. I’d remove the blower motor and take a look around.
