Looks like a small 4-6’ gator. I wouldn’t hesitate to kayak there unless your seeing them over 8-9’, the little guys will be more weary of your large 10-12’ kayak, than you are of them.

Looks like an alligator swimming. Can see the markings on its tail. Looks young to me.

Go for it, man eaten by gator makes a great headline story, and it beats the daily crap they feed us now. clap

The only time we’ve had gators that acted interested in us was during mating season. Had a few bull gators kinda give us a once over, but never got aggressive.

Just so ya know, gators are in just about any body of water in southeast Texas. Green belts and drainage ditches here in Katy, TX are prime habitat. These are heavily populated areas in town. Lots of folks take their dogs for walks in these area. I would highly recommend dogs be on leash at all times as an encounter may not end well.

This guy was almost 10’ in a drainage ditch in Katy. I believe the larger gators, being territorial, spread the population down the creek. Early spring cool temp and water still cold was only reason I could get close enough for a pic.

They've made it up rivers just south, like 10 miles, of San Antonio from time to time. Private club of duck hunting doctors and lawyers don't take too kindly to see them emerge behind their high-dollar retrievers. shocked

A few years ago a friend had a 10’-12’ one living in the river on their property in Belton not far from I-35....

They are in lots of places most people never realize....

There are gators well up into Arkansas and Oklahoma. I would say any body of water south of there has the potential for gators.

There have been gators seen caught and shot around the DFW area for more than 30 years. Could not find it on google but I remember a 12' shot illegally in the river just west of down town Dallas around 30 + years ago.
I remember back in the 60's in the back of a lot of magazines you could by baby alligators and the would ship them to you. Well once your parents found out you had or they got to big and the novelty of having a gator wore off, they would release them in the creek or woods.

Kayak on. Gators use size to determine if a fight is on or not. A 12' kayak or larger would make you the biggest guy around and they will leave you alone. I used to water ski in Louisiana and would spray the gators sunning on the bank. Went down in front of several 8' or longer and never had an incident. Gators are worth caution but not worth worrying about.

FWNC has gators....and it looks like there are some big ones. From what I hear, lots of kayakers paddle that stretch with no issues....I'd just hate to be the first one who had an issue....

I've caught em up to 2' long on a buzz baits back in the day at choke canyon. When you were taking em off the hook and they started squealing a bit it sure would get your attention and eyes scanning the water for momma! lmao
If you want to see some big uns then take a trip down to Choke.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Gators have been in that stretch of water even before the "Goat Man."

We've seen a couple of reports of alligators in and around Fort Worth. I believe there is a good population in the creeks and lakes around Arlington, and a few years ago they had some near a practice field in Arlington while the football team was practicing. There were alligator photos going around a couple of years ago reporting the location as Lake Lewisville, and others that were said to be Lake Grapevine.
