Too, or 4 rather because that's how many muzzys I'm up to now at the house. CVA ran a sale on their .45cal Accura V2 Long Range-- lots of gun for the money. I have one current Accura-- the MR .50cal and I've owned two V2s in the past.

My smokepole line up is now:

1. Traditions Deerhunter Kit, .50cal, percussion-- fiber optic sights, easily comfortable with this gun to 80 yards with maxiballs and killed a great 135" OK buck with it in 2017.

2. Cooper ML22, .50cal inline-- got this new, on clearance after this season, stainless, triggertech trigger, synthetic stock- have yet to shoot it-- waiting on draw results and then deciding if I have to mount iron sights or not

3. Accura V2 MR--- .50cal inline, BH209 and Harvester bullets will shoot sub 2" at 150 yards, killed my elk and muley with it last year in CO

4. The new addition- Accura V2 LR-- .45 cal, 30" barrel, can't wait to stretch the legs on this with irons and a scope- could be the ultimate CO Deer muzzleloader option!

Awesome... Taken deer with me .45 Kentucky .440 ball & patch.
Plenty power fr deer, even around here... Tried finding .45 in-ine, couldnt fand any.
Back in 90's seen the .45's for under $150.00 should have bought one then..
Bought the .590 cal with bot, used. Pard bought .50cal break over.
Way easier cleaning..
Started seen some .45cal in-lines way outa my price range... So bought the .50
in-line break over, twas at right price...
Trying find light load.. Shoulders can't take the licking..

Well said, Old Stony. All I have are traditionals. I have 2 Armisports from my reenacting era in the 90s- a P53 & a 1861 Springfield. I have a Brown Bess musket, a .36 Frontier/ Cabelas Blue Ridge rifle, another 1861 Springfield- these are Pedersolis. I have an old Pietta side by side 12 gauge ML shotgun- I LOVE that shotgun! I have taken more game w/ her than any of my others! She's light weight, yet easy on the shoulder, well balanced, and can do most everything a modern shotty will do- w/in reason. Then I have an old CVA .50 calibre flintlock rifle. I do love the old school ways. Very best regards, JA

It certainly is nice to see someone that appreciates what muzzle loading hunting should be about. Hunting with a muzzleloader should be done in a traditional sense to give the satisfaction of hunting as our ancestors would have done it....and not with a scoped zip gun. Welcome to the forum !!

Everyone is entitled to their opinions- and without hijacking the thread I do think there are certain lines that should be drawn with regards to muzzleloading equipment and seasons. When I was stationed at Fort Sill they noticed a statistical increase in harvest when allowing inline modern muzzleloaders. So much so that it impacted harvest numbers to the point they shut down the rifle season early. They implemented a one week traditional (sidelock, open sights, no sabots) season and a one week modern inline season. I think that is probably the right approach.

Honestly- I think the point of a limited range muzzleloading season could easily be met by restricting power options (BP, 777, BH209) and open sights only.

I did enjoy building my percussion gun and harvesting a great 135" buck with it but I also enjoy the tinkering with my inlines.

I prefer traditional rifles and pistols. To me, the M/L season should be limited to traditional.

I use to watch Jim Shockey on TV & I thought he had some pretty interesting shows. BUT I hated it when he hunted with his scoped SS muzzle loader powered by a shotgun shell primer using the artificial black powder we was trying to hawk. I guess I agree M/L season should be limited to traditional. To each his own. To be sure my opinion isn't worth much since I enjoy a bit of crossbow hunting each year myself.

Last season I guided some hunters from Montana here in the Texas hill country. They said that they liked M/L hunting for elk each year on Montana public land. They weren't so enthralled with the M/L except there was so much competition hunting during the regular rifle season it was both dangerous & much harder to fill a tag. The way they described it, it was more like dove hunting where a lot of hunters stirs them up & if you're lucky one might come by!
