Any Access developers on here or can anyone recommend a decent one?

Pretty much we have a custom access program that we use for our Oil & Gas well database - some operators report their check detail through Oildex - which we download as a CSV file and then import.

Something in our Access program has screwed up and now it gives an error message any time you try to import the oildex CSV file.

I checked to make sure nothing changed on the way oildex formats their CSV and it looks identical to successful imports from a month ago. So it's on our end and is way over my head.

It still works fine on manual input - which we have to do on about 60% of the check details anyways since they're not oildex supported. So it is a problem specifically with importing the CSV and converting it into whatever CSVs get converted into.

If anyone is or has a guy that works on this kind of stuff please let me know. We don't really have a reliable IT person and the lady who designed this program 20 years ago is difficult to get in touch with.

just a long shot, but maybe the PC that is doing the imports got an update and that changed something in Access on that machine. Can you copy the access DB to a different machine and try to do the update there? That would help you eliminate the PC as the source of the issue.

Thanks,
Rich

I uninstalled the windows updates - however - I looked and it looks like 365 did an update the end of June. May try the online repair tool

How big is your Access file - about 1GB is the limit, so if you're approaching that it will be time for major maintenance, or time to upgrade if you cannot purge old data and need to keep it.

What is the exact error message? There may be some bad/invalid characters or data in the current csv file (assuming basic setup has not gotten messed up).

I'm mainly a SQL guy, but occasionally have to deal with Access and it's limits.

No idea. I've got a degree in Animal Science lol - the Access application itself isn't that big - it links to various databases for each company. No idea how it works.

With that said I ran the 365 online repair tool and I guess it uninstalled and re-installed everything. Something must have gotten corrupted on its last (6/20) update.

Seems to be working now and is importing and reading the CSV files correctly into the program. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut. I'm gonna call myself an access developer for the day.

Lately I've been moving folks over to AirTable (www.airtable.com) who can't justify a full-SQL setup & support.
It's cool beans - cloud native and soooo easy.

Yeah there are a lot of pre-built oil and gas programs out there that are excellent but my boss is cheap so we work alongside the dinosaurs.
