I stopped by a fireworks stand this afternoon & picked up several dozen punks. They're the "glow sticks" used to light fireworks. I figure they'll be perfect for sighting in a Thermal Weapon Sight. I've used incense sticks in the past, but these should be as good or better. They just handed me a pack of 20-30 and told me to just take them. I said I'd give 'em a buck if they'd give me two. One dollar later I left with two packs, and everyone was happy. --

That's not a bad idea. I've used hand warmers, tin foil, a butane torch on a steel target, and a number of other things. One thing that took me a while to realize is you don't have to use something hot, it just needs to be a different temperature than whatever the backdrop of your target is. If your whole target is 90 degrees with the ambient temperature something small and cool in the center works well.
What scope did you go with?

What scope did you go with? I have an IR Hunter MK3 60mm, which I upgraded from a MK2 35mm. I've had it a while but I occasionally swap it between a 300 Blackout and a .308 AR-10 style rifle. I've just always used something hot. I started out hanging a steel washer on a piece of wire in front of a target, and heating it with a match. Incense sticks work better because they're hotter and stay hot longer, but the fireworks punks are super cheap and should work just as well. I've also used an ice cube in a zip-loc bag. That works great until you hit the cube and cold water splashes all over the target.

ok del tuffy. enuf with the punks. shoot something and post the pix/vid!! Man, I've been trying. The last two times out I didn't even SEE a hog, and the raccoons have been emptying my feeder almost as fast as I can fill it!

Sounds to me like it is time to go to work on raccoons. Let that 300 BO eat.
I have to go out to my BIL's hay barn later this week. He has a pack of coons tearing stuff up and he wants me to thin them down while I am out there looking for hogs.

The tin foil works for us. Some thermals will not see the tin foil. But your higher end thermals will. I've used 1/4 filled water bottles with the water heated in the microwave for 30 seconds or so. That works (until you shoot it). If we are at the deer lease, we use a large washer hanging on bailing wire and heat the washer up on our target. This works fine. There's multiple ways to sight it in.

Depends on when your sighting in. This time of year I Stuff a piece of paper in and piece of empty brass, then turn a can of brake cleaner upside down and fill the case with Liquid. It will stay d Cool for quite a while.
We all need to practice Whoa more.
