Has anyone had any good results with different protein or mineral blocks? I tried several years ago on a different ranch and it was never touched. Just wondering if any work well and keep deer coming back. I hunt in the panhandle and have corn feeder and protein feeder going but always looking to add. Thanks in advance.

A waste of money in my opinion, you have corn and protein, I'd say that's good enough. I've tried them a few times over the years and they've never worked for me.

dont put any kind of flavored block inside your feed pen if you have cows. They will break down any fence to get to it.

Protein blocks are hard for a deer to eat since the lack top front teeth. They have gnaw on the block with the side of their mouth or pry at it with their lower front teeth. If you get a soft enough block they will work on it or paw on it and eat it quickly. To hard of a block and they will not mess with it much and give up till it softens up with dew or rains on it. Coons love them and hog roll them around like a bowling ball eating them over night. Like Stompy said, they are a waste money...and IMO time. Price them out by the ton and usually they are 50% more and up to 3 times as much per ton as protein pellets.

I put out Champion's Choice Trace Mineral blocks from Tractor Supply on my East Texas (Polk county) lease and South west Texas (Kinney county) lease and I have pictures of deer using them regularly, but the cows will use them if they can get to them. Mine are in a feed pen so it isn't an issue ! They are very hard and will last a full year at least. Good luck !

Yep, a simple trace mineral block keeps deer stopping by, even if your corn or protein feeder goes empty. I try to put them up out of a pig's reach.

I put my TSC trace mineral block in an old tire to keep the hogs from stealing it.

I used to fed this deer block and the deer ate them up. They weigh more than most blocks, good price and have a higher protein %. Most of all the deer really liked them. We had one block in front of a game camera and the deer ate it in about 4 days. We quit because we have hogs and cows on the place we hunt now. We bought them at Gores in Comanche.

I've tried several but never had much luck, usually the weather would destroy them before the animals. I do put out a sulfur salt block at most of my feed locations, outside the pen if no livestock, inside if there is livestock ... more to cut down on ticks & fleas than anything. Deer and hogs both check them out fairly frequently, merely lick for a bit and move on.

I have tried them a couple of times. The deer hardly look at them and the hogs love them. Waste of money.

Several years ago I built a hanger for blocks with a squirrel hood over and would hang from tree limb, well off the ground and out of reach of hogs. Had lots of photos of deer licking, but as soon as a storm would blow through, or the coons got smart, they would quickly get decimated. Gave up, and now with cows, not worth it. Will add, I had a lot of photos of hogs staring up at the blocks, so was concerned I was doing more to attract hogs than to benefit deer.

Big and J makes a block that's a good attractant, but they don't last long. usually less than a week. It might be a good thing to put at your feeder if you're hunting for a few days in a row, but I've found the blocks either get smashed quick, or the deer will barley touch them.

we've always used standard salt blocks or mineral rocks and they hit them regularly. Haven't tried the red blocks at TSC or the sulphur salt blocks...need to give those a shot as well. I wouldn't waste your money on the protein blocks... 2cents

the sulfur salt blocks last a long time (like 6 months to a year depending on the game licking them). My dad and many area ranchers when I was growing up put them out for cattle to help reduce ticks ... and realized the deer also went to them and used them. I don't know if hogs lick on them or just roll them around ...
