New Mule Pro-FXT is being delivered today! YAY!

I need to upgrade my trailer game to haul this thing. Looking for recommendations on a 16 ft pipe top tandem axle with a ramp gate.

Thanks in advance!

Located North of McKinney....

not up in your neck of the woods, but Texas Trailer Supply typically beats the snot out of most other places. Might give them a call on exactly what you are looking for and get a price quote, might be worth the drive down to the Austin area. I have bought several trailers thru them, they can even get custom sizes within a few days.

Do you really need sides? I’m thinking about selling my 16 foot utility trailer in favor of a car hauler for my SxS.

Whatever brand you go with, i would get one that has been powder coated instead of painted. Plenty of "budget" companies out there that use regular paint to keep the cost down. After a couple years, they look like rusty junk.

I bought a MAXxd at North Texas Trailer in Lewisville. They had the best value trailer for my money.

I'm in the same boat. Mule pro fxt here as well. With 30s it's literally inches away from the tailgate with no room for any accessories(corn, coolers, sons 90cc 4 wheeler etc) on a 12' single axle. What really kills is the lift gate. I will never own a trailer with one again. Love my 24' PJ gooseneck but I havent found a better trailer than the diamond C with the ramps built into the sides and no life gate. For example my co truck is a 2019 2wd f150 with 32" tires and the 2.7 EB. I avg 20.5-22mpg unloaded. Took a 264 mile round trip to pickup my tires for the mule and a buddies ranger and was avg 11.4 mpg with an empty trailer bc of that dang gate. Thought it would improve with the mule on it to deflect the wind over the gate. Avg 12.9 with the mule and 4 extra wheels and tires. Be mindful of the lift gate and the fuel it sucks down if it's in your plan.

Just re-read your post. I would high advise against a lift gate or at least modify it to fold or buy the folding diamond c

Nationwide Trailers if you have one near. I’ve bought a PJ & Lonestar from them, great guys.

RJ trailers in Seagoville took good care of me. 16' tandem axle pipe top with bi fold gate by Diamond C. And yes, whatever you get, make sure its powder coat, not just paint. [Linked Image]

Whatever you do, don't buy one with a tall and heavy gate. I would buy a trailer with a dove tail and short gate.

MaxxD Trailer----features you will want 1) pipe rails, not angle iron 2) folding gate!!! on rear (mine has gas spring) 3) powder coat, not paint 4) LED lights 5) flip jack vs the top wind center jack that does not flip--(these break all the time when you hit a low spot in the road) and 6) cast coupler

you might pay a little more, but it is WORTH IT all day long

North Texas Trailer in McKinney on Hwy 5 is where I got mine

What's the infatuation with powder coat? Most of the jobs I've seen peel/scratch much easier than good paint.

Best Buy for your money. Most of the other trailers I looked at didn’t have all of the features offered standard on the MAXXD and were similarly priced.

MaxxD is definitely competitive with their pricing, especially when you look at the features they offer. None in stock in McKinney, possibly Ft. Worth store?

Thanks again to all that chimed in to help!

Alright....looks like I am down to my final 2. Both tandem axle 77"X16' with ramp gate and pipe top.

Big Tex vs PJ Trailer.

Neither has a bi-fold gate, but I plan on having local welder do that on whichever one I get.

Big Tex is not powder coated, but is a Valspar commercial grade paint.

PJ is powder coated.

Most everything else is comparable. There is a Big Tex dealer in my town, they don't have trailer in stock, but would be nice in the future for service if needed.

Price is similar, Big Tex is a couple of hundred dollars more.

Thoughts on the two?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Whichever has a ' complete/full wrapped tongue' and cross members on 16" - 18" centers, almost all trailer manufacturers have economy / less expensive models with partial wrapped tongue and 24" to as much as 36" cross member spread.

Between BigTex & PJ, I'd chose PJ every time, as long as you're comparing apples too apples.
Same axles, brakes, tongue, cross member spacing, frame metal dimensions etc...

Powder coat is nice, when you chip scratch or need to weld on it most folks just shoot the bare spots with rattle can paint anyway.
I have both, not enough difference after a year or two of use to care one way or the other.
