I am purchasing land in Haskell County in SE Oklahoma. I cant seem to wrap my head around the OK non resident tags. I understand you need tags per type of weapon (archery, muzzloader, gun) What I can't seem to figure out is if the $300 tag is good for only one deer in each category? meaning if I want to shoot a buck and doe with muzzleloader do i need 2 $300 tags? Meaning is it $300 for say 5 archery deer? or 5x$300 to take 5 archery deer?

Also anyone hunt very southern Haskell county? Zone 10 What should I expect on deer quality and numbers?

Almost positive-- its 300 for muzzle which allows you to hunt deer and everything during the 9 day ML season. Another 300 for Rifle for the 16 day season and can hunt everything. Another 300 for archery which is 3+ months. The bag limits are a total for the year all weapons combined. I guess dont think of the 300 as buying you an individual "tag" but its like a "license" for a season. If thats not clear you can pm me and ill try to explain better. Bobo and others will chime in soon and maybe shed better light. Also, when you can kill doe is a little confusing. There was also a change for the upcoming season on whether you could kill two bucks within the same weapon season but im unsure(it was a positive change.)

Where I hunt in Carter county, a license is for 6 deer, up to two bucks, the remainder doe, no matter which type of license I buy. This is a total bag limit for the season, although if you buy a rifle license and shoot during the antlerless holiday season the one for you can shoot does NOT count toward your six deer bag limit (weird).

However, each weapon type license is different and the only platform that allows all six deer to be shot (including both bucks) is an archery license.
A rifle license allows three deer total (actually four with the holiday antlerless season) of which only one buck is allowed.
ML is the same except there is no holiday ML season like there is for rifle (again weird).

In Haskell county, you could shoot your maximal 6(7) deer with bow/crossbow, through the season. For gun or ML season you can only take one of the allotted two antlerless deer in your county, since you are in zone 4, and the rules state you would need to shoot at least one of the two allotted antlerless deer in zone 2,7, or 8, and being in zone 4 you could only take one antlered and one antlerless deer with gun and ML combined for 4 and the remaining would be allowed with an archery license. Is that clear as mud now? Essentially, to kill all the deer allowed for the heart bag limit of 6(7) you would need to spend about 1K for three licenses to take all the deer possible, or just spend 300 on archery and do it all with bow.

From everything I have read, the holiday gun antlerless season seems to have no limit on zones, so my take is you can have one extra doe with gun that increases your bag to 7 deer total, if you wanted. I may have read that incorrectly though, so a talk with your GW may be a good thing regarding that.

Be aware, the dates for 20-21 season are different than what is listed in the antlerless deer zone pdf. Those dates were for last year. Notably, the holiday season for zones 2-9 are slightly longer this year. The other seasons are essentially the same length, just different dates.

ok this is extremely helpful and yes that makes sense. I was worried that in order to take 2 deer with Rifle I needed $600 in tags. But I can take my 2 with one $300 Rifle tag and 2 more with one $300 ML tag. Just cant exceed the total season limit of 6 deer. I read they did not increase the bag limit but doubled it in near all zones did not hear if they are adding a holiday doe to zone 10 this year which seems weird as that zone has the most deer killed per year and i woudl think shows a high population. BUt since i hunt archery i will likely be spending $900 for all three type of tags.

Also where I am buying in Haskell is in zone 10. The far southern portion of Haskell south of Hwy 31 is zone 10 as I look at the zone map for doe.

If your part of Haskell is in zone 10, then you probably won’t have Holiday antlerless season.

There may also be some season date limits that have been placed on zone 10 in the past that don’t apply to zone 2-9. Make sure and double check carefully before just blasting away slinger

ktk, TXBuck said it better than me. You may want to reread his about total deer per each weapon season cause your post you recapped it wrong I think. That was also the part I thought they changed for the upcoming season was how many doe you could kill per each weapon season. At least you are way closer than what you first thought.

i think i understand what you are saying...only one doe with either muzzloader or gun.

But lets say I only hunt ML this year. I can take one buck and one doe with the one $300 ML tag correct?

Close but still no cigar.
THREE deer total and only one can be a buck per EACH weapon season(ML and Rifle).
3 doe OR 2 doe and 1 buck for ML(300).
Then the same exact thing again for Rifle(another 300).
Whatever you dont kill outa those two seasons you can kill with bow(another 300) including all of them if dont kill any during ML and Rifle.
I cant help you real specifically on the holiday doe thing but basically you can kill an EXTRA doe during that time.
TxBuck explains it better if you read closely.
Everything ive said I think applies to most of Okla cause I do NOT know your county at all.

I hunt Osage County, and IMO, freerange explained it best. I usually just get bow, and sometimes rifle as well.I never come close to my limit. One buck a year and a doe or two combined with the deer I kill in TX fill my freezer plenty. Be aware, the youth license is one deer of either sex per license. I.e. one during rifle, and one during bow.

So in this OP instance, his property will Be zone 10 according to him, so let’s assume He is correct.
Total bag limit is 6 deer of which only two can be bucks.
Archery can take all 6.
ML can take two, one buck one doe.
Rifle can take two, one buck and one doe.
Zone 10 will likely not have an antlerless holiday season, as it hasn’t the last couple years.

So six deer total, two in HIS zone could be from rifle or ML, but only one doe per rifle or ML. So if you get an archery license and shoot two bucks with bow, then your rifle and/or ML license would be a 300 doe license, and you would only get one doe per license.

Hope that makes more sense based on the info presented.

Im not familiar with various differences between counties but evidently the number of doe allowed within each weapon season varies so I better quit advising on that but it seems the buck allotment is same.

Non resident licenses are different from resident licenses.
Don't confuse the particulars of the two.

* Residents* are licensed/tag/charged per deer $20. 6 deer all seasons combined $120, plus resident hunting license $25 hunting or $42 hunting/fishing combo. * OK residents.*

Non resident - Annual or Fiscal year hunting license. - $142 - $176
If you want to hunt archery, + Non resident deer Archery season $300. / 6 deer, no more than 2 antlered.
If you want to hunt muzzleloader, + Non res deer Muzzleloader season. $300 / 3 deer, no more than 1 antlered.
If you want to hunt gun, + NR deer Gun season. $300 / 3 deer, no more than 1 antlered.

The individual licenses are good for only the specific dates of the season for the type of weapon used.

6 deer, no more than 2 can be antlered, all seasons combined.

A non resident hunting license, plus $300 for each of the different deer seasons by dates & based on weapon used.

My property in Oklahoma is why I bought a good crossbow. I rifle hunted several years back and took two deer at less than 40 yards each.

This is perfect I understand now. I have hunted about 6-7 states in my lifetime and without a doubt Oklahoma non resident is the most confusing to understand.

Can I buy archery and then wait and buy over the counter a ML or Gun if I dont get a buck and doe with the bow? Meaning can I buy tags just in time for ML or Gun if i still have a desire to take more deer?

Yes I am also positive its zone 10. If you look at Rt 31 on the doe zone map it is the divider between zone 4 and zone 10 I am about 1.5 miles from being in zone 4 but definitely in 10

If all goes as planned I will close by end of July and should get some feeders and cameras going.

Next step will be figuring out a plan for bear proof feeders. Thats new for me.

Each different license can be bought on line as needed/wanted. Very easy quick process. You can wait and buy as needed/wanted. I waited till after rifle to buy my archery.

If I am only hunting deer with archery, ML or Gun I do NOT need to buy the Nonresident Annual/Fiscal hunting license correct? Only the $300 tag for each weapon/season I want to hunt.

The annual/fiscal License is only required for small game and turkey or waterfowl?

Ktk, you are correct, the deer weapon specific license is enough, you do NOT need an annual hunting license. If you want to hunt other species for sport (not including depredation) then you would need the hunting license.

But for deer only, the weapon specific license is enough. For hogs, coins, coyotes that are actively destroying or messing with your deer hunting, you can take those anytime as a land owner, however coyotes are not allowed at night, and a hog night permit is needed (super easy online, and free).

From my understanding non resident Youth are exempt from the annual or fiscal hunting license, Adults are not.

A few of my long time friends own properties in Ok, I know they all buy the the annual or fiscal hunting license every year plus the individual deer season licenses they hunt.

I know none of them even shot or owned a bow before buying property in OK, now they're all avid bow hunters, pretty much all they use for deer.

Nonresident (unless exempt):
• Nonresident Deer License (exempt from nonresident hunting license) for that particular
season or a resident lifetime hunting or combination hunting/fishing license.
