I got back on the 23rd of May from a Prairie Dog hunt near Devil's Tower in NE WY. we hunted 18-20th with much success. I started the first afternoon with my 10/22 then moved up to my AR using 223. It became clear to me that most targets were beyond 150yrs so I switched to my Tikka t3x 22-250. My cartage was the Hornady Varmint Express 50gr. The next couple days i stayed with it and most shots were 225-450. I decided to see if I could hit them out beyond 500yrs but found it difficult with the high Wy winds. I think most of the challenge was keeping the rifle steady on caldwell bags. I never got comfortable with the shooting table and bags but still had much fun seeing then go flying upon contact. This was a very pleasing trip at a wonderful ranch and visiting my old camping and hunting camps.
That is a sport good for all ages. I have a coworker and good friend that used to live up by Rapid City SD. He always showed up to shoot them with a 22 revolver and a 22 rifle saying to enjoy shooting the short ranges and work out.
I love the Devil's Tower area most people don't realize that the Missouri Buttes just to the NW are taller . They don't have a flat top so there is that.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype
