They realize they have no usefulness for most people and will be left alone.

Early 70's at Fort Ord we would occasionally see a black-tailed jackrabbit scamper across the inland ranges. All of a sudden 50 trainees were shooting at the same target (or so it seemed). Really used to p_ _ _ off the range NCOIC. I don't recall one of them being hit.

Wow

More of a cottontail like body and face with some crazy, ginormous ears!!!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Great pictures! They're becoming, along with their cottontail distant cousins (yes, one's a rabbit and the other's a hare), almost lawn ornaments at the ranch. If I'm out there long enough by myself, I've been known to carry on a conversation with them, albeit a little one-sided. They don't know I've occasionally opened one up and done an "African drag" for coyotes. eek2

the laid back ears is my favorite, when I was growing up, we would drive the country rds, in summer time they would sit in the shade of sunflowers, easy pot shot.
