We have a pretty good time at the annual reunions. Usually about 40-50 of us. One of our traditions is holding an auction to raise money for next years reunion. Generally people bring various things to auction off and high bidder gets the item, except for one. My brother came up with this ski for the 1984 reunion and since then the high bidder gets to pick the lucky person that has to take it home until next year. It's customary to add something to it. Anyone have traditions for get togethers?

Use to have one every summer. Lots of criminals on that side of family. Most cousins/uncles Are in and out of penitentiary.
Traditions. As I was young, older cousins told me there was no Santa when I was 5. Dug a hole and tried to bury me alive. Threw an uncles tackle box on me and wrapped me in fishing line and put a stringer around my neck.
Good times at Salmon Lake.
Have a cousin who steals the olds medicines. Cops showed up on last one.
Thanks, I needed to share that.

Almost forgot the legal stuff like.
“How do you kidnap your own family?”. And “garland police are abusive”. Which I can’t really argue.
Or
Were getting bail together for your cousin Michael. I ask how much They say 700k. I laugh.

Used to be that we had 4 different family reunions a year. Only a few under 40 ever showed up, now there is 2 one on my wifes side and one on my side. Fundraisers were silent auctions of homemade stuff, tears ago the baked goods went for outrageous prices, but as the elder aunts passed, the baking quality suffered. Still some good stuff, but you better know who baked it.
Now the reunions are at funerals. Only 3 aunts left, all 3 in their 90s, and 1 uncle that is 99.

Our family reunion comes around every 2-3 years.. Had one back in March. My great uncle usually reserves the church fellowship hall in Clyde. Can't remember where they get theBBQ... But it's dang good.

I have attended one family reunion on my fathers side, his cousin has a place outside Centerville. His cousin passed away before the next scheduled one so No Mas. On my mothers side, once our grandmother passed away some of her E, TX relatives started having one. I was told by my BIL that it was mainly a bunch of wimmin just hanging around yacking about wimmin stuff so I never went to those. We had one for our family at Joe Pool lake it was fun and interesting. Youngest brother John aka Con was bowing up a little wanting older brother to take notice that he just might be able to take me out finally, yes alcohol was involved Now if it was something like Hancocks, I would be in with a grin

This was our family reunion from 1962 or 63. My grandfathers brother married my grandmothers sister and then both families had about 10 kids each. All you can see of me is my head. I am standing behind and to the right of the little girl in the front row in white shorts( I was about 5). We still have a reunion at the same location but it is much smaller these days.

Funny thing about getting older: Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to see through people's BS gets much better.

I remember big fun reunions, a thing of the past. I bet it is only a generation away before a family reunion for most is lunch for one or three at a restaurant. Families are much smaller.
My mom was one of eleven. Dad was one of four. There are two left on one side and one on the other. My wife and I have one son. I hope he stays close forever.
I joke with my uncle that my grandparents didn't have kids just to be having kids. They were raising farm hands.

Last one I went to was right after my divorce. Got married shortly after and have no need to go to another one---yet.

My Wife's family has/had two sets of double first cousins with lots of kids. My wife knows all of her family out to 4th and 5th cousins. Went to a reunion a couple years ago and there were easily 250 people. They had a diagram/family tree (bush) spread out over several tables, maybe 20 feet.

We use to have one at my Uncle’s place before he passed. He lived at Crystal Beach and we always had a big crawfish boil, it was a good time.

Here is part of my family reunions\ experience.. http://www.h-bfamily.org/ It has been years since I have went to one of these, there are so many people, that it like going to the mall and mingling with strangers. This was one I went to, 1964, over 550 people attended, the first 3 pics are the people. The last one is an old picture of the "founding fathers" that

We used to have ours at the VFW hall in Iredell. Always fun. Someone always had a bottle or ten, stashed under the seat of their pickup. I miss those. A good country dentist could have made a mint as long as he took chickens or goats as payment.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.
