How long has Savage had their new logo?
What happened to the Indian?
Did they decide that the word "Savage" and a Indian for a logo was racist?

Seriously I don't follow Savage, I just saw the new logo on TV and wondered if it was something they did recently in light of all the newly discovered racism.

I'm not sure, but I'm almost sure the answer to your 3rd question is unequivocally "Yes". "Savage" isn't a word used by anybody anymore, but, is a fantastic name for a rifle I think. I only own one rifle by the brand, a Model 99 with a brass counter in .300 Savage.

As an aside, and a long way off course, but bare with me - my parents got married in San Antonio on Dec. 26, 1940. They'd planned a honeymoon in Mexico and my mom said, and I quote, "I know the way to Laredo." They wound up spending their wedding night (which actually meant something back then, but I digress) in Alice, TX. Fast forward to about ten years ago, shutting Mom's house down, moving her to assisted living 'cause of dementia, etc., I was finally tackling (since nobody else would) Dad's closet. In a box with my oldest brother's baby shoes he'd carried on the B24 he was an RO in during WWII in the south Pacific, was a match book from the Savage Motel...Alice, TX. He'd kept it all those years. Helluva man.

My wife is a small part Indian. Can Indians still be Indians? Just wondering...

My wife is 14% "Andean Native American", according to the Mormons and Ancestry.com. And her Bolivian grandpa always said they were "Basque". roflmao

It has actually been gone for a few years. I bought a savage rifle in 2012 or 13 that still had the Indian on the grip. Lost it a couple of years later and looked at their website for a replacement. They had switched logos so I dropped the matter.

In 1919, Arthur Savage was approached by Chief Lame Deer to buy rifles for his tribe in New York. Lame Deer offered to allow Savage to use his image as its logo in exchange for discounted rifles and an annual fee. As of 2018, Savage Arms was still paying the annual fee.

Chief Lame Deer was a much cooler logo.

Lots of bidding happening on eBay for Savage memorabilia that carries the Indian Chief logo. You could find it just last year on many of their 125th Anniversary items, including their 125th Anniversary Model 110 Bolt-action. While I haven't seen any mention the company has officially dropped the logo, folks sure seem interested in snapping up items that carry it. As is often the case, it's the older "vintage" stuff that seems to be demanding the highest prices.

It seems to me that the logo changed when it was bought by the employees investor group.

With the company being founded in 1894, last year marked their 125th Anniversary. As of just yesterday, the company online store still had a few leftover items from last year's Anniversary promotions. I suspect folks are just seeing the writing on the wall and buying the more collectable vintage items before prices get higher.

While the limited production run of the 125th Anniversary Model 110 is now over, you can still find a few being sold by online dealers.

lots of reproduction out there, example..."marbles" items, ect are new, not the original items. like the safety hatchet, the older ones sold for lots of money, the new one have ruined the market.

My Savage has a sticker with Lame Deer on it. Normally I would remove it but I’ll not do that now.
