I recently moved to east Texas, Lufkin area. I am working on a 6.8 build to hopefully shoot a hog.
I'm from the suburbs so I never learned anything about hunting. How do you start hunting in your late 20s? Where do I being?

Start with the TPWD website and also take their hunter safety course. Others will be along shortly to likely recommend a book or two for you. If you can, find a friend or mentor that already has some of the skills you want to learn.

First of all, welcome to the Forum. This forum is definitely the best place to start for a new hunter. I will find time later to offer some advise but Im sure others will as well. Just posting like you did will likely get you alot of info but once you kind of get started you can ask more pointed questions and will gets lots of good feedback. Make sure you understand the pm system cause some guys may correspond that way. You can have a pm sent to you through your email without you having to check on here all the time. Good luck.

Make friends who hunt definitely helps and gets you ahead quickly!! That's how I started 25 years ago. But plemty of public land sort of to dip your toes in. Read the TPWD website front to back first and do hunters safely course.

The other guys have already passed on some good advice. If you filter out some of the BS and misdirection here, there is a lot of great information to be found on this forum. You can search all of the sub-forums for specific topics to get you pointed in the right direction. Most of the folks here are more than happy to help new hunters and shooters out. Just make yourself a drink and wade right in! (You'll need that drink). Edit: Russ79 that's a heck of an offer.

A subscription to Deer and Deer Hunting magazine will lead you to a lot of information about deer behavior and strategies for harvesting them. I wouldn't be surprised if there are not magazines that offer the same information for those interested in hunting feral hogs.

6.8 spc is a bullet caliber and he is most likely building on a AR platform.
