For the second time my dog got into gum. He is getting expensive with emergency vet visits. Ive been lucky both times but it’s pretty scary. Just a reminder to look out for. Gum is very bad for dogs.

A squirt of Hydrogen Peroxide down their throat will bring that gum and anything else right back up. My GSP got into some prescription pills once and the vet asked if I had a way to squirt it down the throat of the dog. I used a hypodermic plunger (w/no needle) and boom...all was well.

Actually it's the sugar free that's bad. Some chemical in it is bad for dogs.

Yes sugar free but that’s all people seem to eat today. Pet insurance has been a good decision with this one. It took me two different incidents as a puppy to learn this.

My husband chews nicotine, and sugar free gum.
All gum is kept inside a top cabinet, out of the dogs reach.

Glad you pup is doing good.

^^^ This. you should keep Hydrogen Peroxide around the house and in your K9 field first aid kit at all times. My GSP ate a whole helping of rat poison one time when I was out at the lease with him, luckily, I caught him with some green pellets still stuck in his vents and was able to get the HP down him.... he puked green foam until he got to white foam. Vet had me bring him in the next day, the tested his blood and put him on vitamin K as a precaution. Blood came back normal with no traces of poison, so the Peroxide did the trick. There are times where you wouldn't want to induce vomiting, of course, but investing in a field first aid manual for dogs is a very good idea... that's where i had read about HP making a dog puke.

This is the one I have and have referenced it more than a couple of times with hunting dogs.

They pet insurance is the best money I have ever spent on this dog. It cost me about 3k in vet bills before I realized he was going to get expensive.

I put insurance on my last pup. Just figured if I had it, I would never need it. Boy was I wrong about that. Every time something major has happened, its been on a holiday weekend. I think her vet bills added up over $5000. and this does not include normal vet visits. A&M has one of my credit cards on file. The good new is, the insurance company quickly reimbursed me 80% of the charges.
