I think this is the right forum. confused2 I've been, occasionally, cutting some mesquite and spraying with Remedy + diesel. Amazed at how powerful that stuff is. (And I've been sure not to breath it or get it on me.) But, it is hellaciously expensive. ($85.00 a gallon at Tractor Supply.)

For the tiny mesquites in the middle of the 2-track and the green growth that comes back, no matter how hard I try to get all the green, on small cedars, without grubbing them out, is there something more economical that I can keep in the Can-Am and spray as I come across it?

Thanks in advance for any help. smile

I don't think so. I use to use Remedy and diesel but diesel got expensive years ago and I went to Remedy and Reclaim mixed with water and dish soap and got just as good if not better kill. Some folks use Sendero but all it is is Remedy and Reclaim already pre mixed, and it's expensive. Been spraying mesquites for 22 years and Reclaim/Remedy seems to be the best.

I prefer Sendero & water with dye & surfactant. In a 25 gallon tank.

Maximus is right; it’s more powerful, is not remedy, and kills better.

We just use prescribed burning for small cedar, mesquite. Dozer for the big stuff.

I use 2oz of Remedy with 2oz of Reclaim per gallon, along with 6oz of dish soap for surfactant for 15 gallon sprayer with water, not diesel.

i push mine over or run over them with a 14,000 lb Kubota track skid steer

nothing lives after I am done

If you don't have one go rent one

Triclopyr is Remedy and Clopyraid is Reclaim. Look it up that way and you'll find some generic brands that are cheaper.

What county is your property in? What is your intentions with the site? Replanting or other? I could suggest a few herbicides depending on what you are planning.

What Stompy said. I think 2.5 gallons of the generic is about $85.

Try experimenting by mixing the herbicides down lower and lower percentages till you find the lowest mix that will work. I’ve found that sometimes just straight diesel does a decent job if you give it a couple weeks to work, especially in mid summer when the heat is on, just diesel will kill the tops.

For yaupon I can use about a half pint triclopyr per three gallons of diesel and It still works In mid summer, it just takes a little longer.

Lots of good info here! I don’t have cedars but do have mesquite and lots of Honey Locust. I have developed a strong hatred for the locust. They are harder to kill then the mesquite but I have success with RoundUp, diesel and liquid soap. Used 50/50 gly&diesel mix and a few ounces soap per gallon. Probably about a 60-75% kill ration on them and close to 100% on mesquite.

If anyone has experience controlling Locust please share, I would very much appreciate. Also open to other methods besides herbicide.

I don't know how honey locust compare to blackjack locust, but Spike20P is deadly on BJ locust trees along with shin oak and plum thickets. It isn't cheap, but a few pellets is all it takes. It doesn't do much on mesquite or cedars though.

You should find a gal like mine. Every plant she touches turns into a dry stick.

I use Remedy and diesel to kill everything from poison oak and everything else. Actually not Remedy but a less expensive generic from Tractor Supply. Read the label. They are all about the same. For trees of any kind I spray around the trunk from ground to about 1 foot up.

Not much.

I use about a pint in my 40 gallon sprayer.
