My suggestion is to do what I did recently, buy the car from the dealership, take the best option to save money, in my case they offered $2500 rebate to finance directly with manufacturer, bought the car, they financed at 2.99 percent.
A month later I refinanced with my credit union at 1.9 percent.

My credit union is a private one but offers 1.9 percent currently for new or used cars. Never just take the interest rate over a good rebate because you can always refinance at a better rate later.

Our family has had very good experiences with used rentals. I bought two new cars in 1999 and never again since.

My wife bought a Traverse from Hertz with 22,000 miles on it. It now has 158,000 and zero trouble.
One of my daughter's bought a Malibu from Hertz with 14,000 miles. It now has 160,000 and still going strong.
Another one of my daughter's also bought a Malibu from Hertz with 31,000 miles and it is pushing 150,000 now without a problem.
I am driving a RAM that I bought from Enterprise with 19,000 miles. Still only 65,000 miles but I like it.

All of us saved many thousands of dollars vs. new, allowing them to pay with cash. I got a 1.9% loan via Enterprise underwritten by Wells Fargo.

Probably, but the difference won't be anywhere near the amount you save on the vehicle.

The difference in 4% vs. 2% is only about $250 per year on a $25k vehicle.

I had a choice between 0% or $2k off. The 0% was about $650 cheaper over the life of the loan. I took the 0%. Deal was through toyota financial at the end of 2017.

Used cars couple years old go for about 20 to 30% cheaper only, Not gonna find them half price unless they are super high mileage

You absolutely can if you are patient and not too picky about options/colors

Then that’s not really half off, that’s taking what you can get for a discounted price.

A persons use for a vehicle can be just a diverse as the people buying them and it may not lend to buying a used car with high mileage

I know that my 2017 diesel is worth about 65-70% of what I paid for it new in sept. of 17’.

Yep and I paid about 55% of Sticker for a 2 year old Tundra with 25k miles on my last truck purchase and about 60% on a 2 year old Lexus GX460 with 22k miles. Both fairly well rated vehicles that tend to hold their resale value I would say. Not exactly half, but nowhere near 20% or almost sticker as others are saying. Patience is key in the used market.

Finding used Toyotas at a decent price is definitely a tough one. Especially if you are waiting for something specific. It is doable, but for sure tough.

Agreed. I was not really hung up on color, don't mind a few dings and scratches. Truck I bought actually had more than I wanted for options but can't really control that in used cars.

I think under 4% on used is pretty good.

I wanted 4wd and wasnt particular on color and just couldnt find one that didnt have 150k plus or only 5 or 6k less than what i could get a new one for. I ended up buying a 2017 new in the very last business day of 2017 for 6k off msrp and 0% interest.

I am always looking for a second gen 4wd used 4runner that someone doesnt want an arm and a leg for.

So you bought a Toyota because they hold their resale value well, then tell us about how you bought a Tundra with 25k miles on it for 55% of the price of a new one two years later?

Seems they don't hold their value all that well then do they.....

Enterprise is a good place to pick up a vehicle.

I almost bought one from Enterprise that was a great deal, then the cops called and told me they found my stolen truck so it killed the deal

Bought a 2019 Subaru last week from the dealer via TruCar that offers no-haggle pricing through my employer. Got .99 percent for a 48 month loan via Subaru/Chase.

Everybody is different. I've bought nothing but new vehicles all my life........until the last one.

Bought a used Tundra, 1.5 yrs old, saved $12,000 compared to sticker.
To me, new cars and trucks are just too expensive these days, we have the money but just can't justify it.

Yep and now it has almost 200k on it and is still worth half of what I paid for it. I would say that it has held its value well. My point is that if you are patient and flexible there are always deals to be had, just as there are in real estate, firearms and many other things where people's circumstances change. I have actually bbeen looking for a new car for my wife for 10 months now. Patience and flexibility. up

Similar deal here. $1500 off or 0%. I had planned to take the cash. CCU rate was 1.79%. Over the life of the loan it was a wash but I would have saved money with the higher rate and paying off early. I have never gone full term on a car loan. Problem was the CCU messed up the application and put me on a 2 day hold. Early pay off comes in to play on these deals too.
