Family hunt looking for low fence with an excellent opportunity to kill a 140 plus whitetail. Housing for 4 with some amount of privacy as 1 hunter will be a female and food, but food is not a deal killer. 3 day hunt a mature axis would be ok as an option for 2 of us. Please DM any responses. We hunted that way 2 years ago and left with a bad taste because of false promises and willingness to recover well hit game. We are a family of hunters and are not unreasonable, and understand fair chase hunting. Looking for a great family trip with opportunities and a nice environment to enjoy each other and anybody else in camp.

Putting all 3 of the red highlighted areas together on place will be very difficult due the axis ranging in areas not traditionally known for 140+ WT. There are areas in South Texas that have both together but they are very rare and those ranches generally do not offer any hunts like you are asking for. The majority of the axis will either be loosing their antlers or just starting to grow new ones in late November into early Jan when you are looking to hunt. Your best bet would be to look into the Brady area on one of the larger ranches for the axis and possibly the 140+ WT. Another area would be in the Uvalde area also along the river drainages. The best time to hunt axis is around Fathers Day IMO..they are in the rut and most have just come out of velvet a month or so before that. Good luck. cheers

2 years ago on a trip we saw several axis that fit the bill and a couple of whitetails that were pushing 140, but only a couple which is what I would expect. Outfitter was dishonest as we smoked a true axis trophy who was hit hard, but he had other plans. Never had a shot on the whitetail we were looking for but had a couple of peeks. He hadn't scouted a thing and was just by chance they were spotted. I could have phrased it better by saying excellent opportunity on a 140 as compared to a good opportunity for a deer that size. Truth be known a 130 would tickle us pink, and I do thank you for pointing those things out about timing and proximity. It is our only window to make this hunt work. I would be open to other hunts but my 2 sons want a chance at a nice whitetail which takes precedence. Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Not a complainer been hunting for 20 years through
outfitters and had some good and bad hunts but always great hosts, This past experience was the first ever and if you were there you would understand I do not want to come across as the guy who expects the world....we understand it is a hunt and this trip is as much or more about family as the hunt.

Mike Stroff with SOE hunts has some awesome property in the Bracketville and Uvalde area with great free range whitetail and axis. Solid lodging and you will see lots of animals. I have axis hunted with him the past two years and been very pleased. PM me if you'd like more info.
