Went out Wednesday PM to do a little late afternoon coyote hunting when this sow and another sub-dominant sow appeared out of tree line to my north. I was in a 10 foot raised shooting stand and had just settled in. Wind was all wrong and both picked up my scent. I thought, what the hell, why not. I put 1 round a little low into big sows head, and 2nd round failed to cycle. Cleared that and she was trying to run like a drunken sailor but making headway none the less. 3 d round was center punched and she stopped in the woods and left me with a pretty good thermal image. 4th round eviscerated her. Chased her 30 yards into woods where I finally got a round into her ear hole. Here are my lessons to be learned: 1. Never shoot a big hog with a dart sized caliber at greater than 100 yards (22.250 with 50 grain SST) 2. Never go into stand w/o binos to clearly ID game before dark 3. Never go chasing a 230 lb hog without a handgun unless you have a death wish 4. Turn the dam video recorder on the thermal or, at least, activate the RAV.
Had fun anyway.....

You finally got her down, and you learned or relearned a couple lessons! Congratulations.

If round #1 was like round #5, you would have never been reminded of lessons 1-3. Lesson #4 is just plain forgetful, it happens! smile

bang I musta had death wish.
No telling how many times went after wounded hogs, in very thick stuff, day & night,
:pistal: Pistal & times rifle rifle. Reason they called me muyloco caveman at work, hammer also way i looked, ( scragley beard)...

cheers do agree NOT smartest thing at do...
Twice i did back off... Both times at night, first time did have me pistal slinger but it went intact area had at get on knees at crawl threw, flashlight not worth darn.
Good thing did cause next day after morning deer hunt went ta area & it had played up roughly 10ft...
But spooked it out going in...
Second time, hog went three thick stuff right at dark thirty, , had chased a wounded one threw in daylight.
It was a cool evening, huntsolo, figured wait till early morning...

Any wounded critter can be dangerous if hurt & feels cornered...
rofl a wood chuck had me running on a muzzleloader hunt.
popcorn that's offtopic different thread some time...

up cool thread...

edit : this post tis witten for freerange & stx, rofl

i gotta be me, no one else wants the job...

Good results, and that's the important part.
