Alright......Tried to score this guy, and I don't like my numbers. Maybe I don't know how to follow the instructiosn, so i came up with my measurements and wrote down what I had. I included a partially filled out sheet, plus a pic of the buck with an 18 inch ruler to use as a size reference. Do my numbers look correct? Can i get some guidance? [Linked Image]

110 maybe. Really could use some other pics. If the pics show the tines straight up and down instead of pointing at you or away it really helps. There are ALWAYS 4 mass measurements to the side. Measure halfway from the last point to the end of beam and take the measurement at the midpoint of that. Remember, he is the same buck after you know the score as he was before so if you were excited then dont let the score disappoint you.

On that deer and most it is really easy. Get you a flexible tape and measure.

Greatest inside spread, length of each beam, and the length of every point from level with the beam edge to the tip of the point, then get the circumfrance between the base and brow tine, brow tine and G2, betwn G2 and G3, and 1/2 way between the G3 and end of beam for each side. Add it up and that is a gross score.

Your 2-3 mass measurements seem optimistic to me but overall you're pretty close to correct. I measured one of mine one time and was disappointed he didn't break 110. I got over it as I was ecstatic with him at the time, and 30 years later I still am.

They are about right. Why does it matter?? Post the whole sheet out though. Use a flexible tape of course. Took me 14 years hunting to break 140 which usually needs to be a 10 pt. Taxy measureD 149 and me 145. They aren't a dime a dozen. Don't even have one over 122 before that and that one is a 11 pt. Need tine length and mass to get high.

My favorite is an old 6 pt that was a broken down 10 pt. Was a fighter killed at 10:40 am in Dec in Bosque. 4th buck chasing a doe that morning. No feeders on 1000's of acres. Crazy hunt that shouldn't have been. Score doesn't always matter!

He looks to be around 108-109 on score. You need to take the 4th mass measurement on each side like posted above. All mass measurements are the smallest circumference between the base and G1 or G1 and G2 or G2 and G3 or G3 and G4 (if present)...if no G4 then take follow the instructions from freerange. All bucks get 4 mass measurement per side no matter if they have only 6 points or 12 points off the beam to score. Also on your score sheet you need to correct the spread credit to 13 2/8"....not 18 4/8"...your spread credit for the final score is the actual inside spread(13 2/8") unless it is more than the longest beam(it is not since the beam is longer than the inside spread) so you only put in 13 2/8". For example, if his inside spread was 19" then you would only use the longer beam length(18 4/8" here) as the credit/inside spread score for the final score. You can't gain score by using the longest beam as credit it can only penalize you if the inside spread is greater than the longest beam. You final score should only include one spread measurement(the inside spread), 8 total mass measurements, 2 beam lengths and then all the tine lengths(typical and non typical) for a gross score.
Congrats on your buck cheers

Ain't that the truth. The first deer I shoulder mounted I'm sure wouldn't break 110, but he's still a trophy to me. When looking at photos of big deer it is easy to forget how a really nice buck can score 125. Deer hunting is about making memories and being outdoors, not the numbers on a score sheet.

That's a nice buck anyone should be proud of!
Those 140's and 150's don't grow on trees, unless you hunt where they are and have deep pockets!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

My most memorable kill was considerably less than that. Was my first buck with a bow. Had that one shoulder mounted, and am as proud of it today as I was when I saw it pile up.
