My Dad got one he could pet while she was on the nest that she built in a planter next to the door so he was always walking by her and she figured out he wouldn’t hurt her. He’d put food up there for her. She came three years in a row but every year she’d start off leery but he could get her to let him pet her. It was pretty cool.
Great picture.

Great story, Judd. It's actually a wonder that those birds ever reproduce. They build the crappiest, bare bones nest. A strong wind from a thunderstorm will destroy their nest. Love looking at the pics though. Keep 'em coming. We're rooting for you, momma dove.

Great picture. 10 or 12 years ago I had a Whitewing that would land on the patio table and I'd feed it cat food.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I have an update. I was checking on her around noon today and to my surprise I saw one chick in the nest. I'm going to try and get a picture this afternoon.

You're right...great builders they are not My Dad got one he could pet while she was on the nest that she built in a planter next to the door so he was always walking by her and she figured out he wouldn’t hurt her. It was pretty cool to see. Had no idea they'd eat cat food. I have an update. I was checking on her around noon today and to my surprise I saw one chick in the nest. I'm going to try and get a picture this afternoon. Look forward to the picture.
