A few weeks ago I asked for suggestions on techniques for painting a rifle stock. My stock recently arrived and using your suggestions I now have a finished product. I wore rubber gloves the whole time to keep oils from my fingers to get on the stock. I wiped it down with acetone and then taped off the lines. I taped off only two color areas, leaving only the area that would be painted khaki. Three coats of paint and then I removed the tape. I taped over the khaki and another section and then laid down the green. Removed the tape, taped over the khaki and the green sections and then sprayed on the brown. I removed all of the tape including then thin strips and then applied about five coats of clear. The painting takes no time at all but I probably have 4 man hours wrapped up in masking. There are some things I would do differently if I were to do it again but overall, I am very pleased.

Are the 'done differently' items in regards to the paint scheme or the parts of the process? I think it looks great, you should be proud!

I would do some things differently with the masking. While I like the way it looks, I would like more curves to each color panel so they weren't so geometric. I really enjoyed doing this and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if I decide to upgrade another rifle.

That looks pretty dang good. If you want to break the colors up a little more, get some natural sponge and a contrasting color of paint. Dip the sponge in the paint and press the sponge on different areas of the stock to break the large patterns up. That's how Manners does on their stocks.

You did a really nice job on the stock, just don't lay it down somewhere or drop it because you may never find it back! That is why I quit getting camo flashlights. Bright colors are easier to find on the ground. up
