Last month, Harbor Freight issued a recall for 1.7 million Pittsburgh-branded three-ton and six-ton jacks stands over a manufacturing flaw. Due to worn stamping machinery, the jack stand's ratchet teeth might not be deep enough to hold the lifting extension in place when the supported car shifts its weight. The stands at issue were assembled between December 1, 2012 and March 31, 2020, but Harbor Freight believes potentially defective units are only 5% of the total run. To be safe, the company decided to recall all of the stands, and has issued gift cards for comparable stands. A man named Mike Galli received one of the replacement stands, and reportedly, things didn't go well.

I really like Harbor Freight and I buy things there fairly often. However, I've never even considered buying something from them that would hold a vehicle up over me.

My hate for HB is well documented here. Dad has been slowly learning what I already found out and that is that the stuff they sell is crap! He bought a big floor jack for his F250. I broke it trying to change a tire on a ATV. Not sure how a 500 pound ATV breaks a 3ton jack but it did.

Jacks stands are definitely something you don't won't to fail. As far as Chinese junk goes I bought a Chinese made knock off Hi lift jack at Tractor Supply....it failed the first two times I used it. Needless to say it went back and was replaced with an American made real Hi Lift.
