I'm going to assume that the OP is not going to pack a pontoon boat The same way you did in college. Ie bikinis and beer

It was never intended to be a bass boat so as long as the expectation is real.......what's not to like.......a happy wife enjoying the outdoors with you......I like them for lakes that you can troll for sand bass if you want to fish and those that just want to sun bathe or party can.......cheers

Take a look at the Hurricane deck boats. Your wife would love it. In fact, i have one with very low miles that I am thinking about selling. PM if you are interested.

I have a 24' Landau and love it. My advice is find a nice used one and dont skimp on the trolling motor, I have the minn kota ulterra 80 lb and while it is awesome, I wish I had the bigger one. Also make sure the boat itself isn't underpowered . I have a 115 hp and it will push it to 30 mph. When I replace it, I'll definitely be putting a 150 on it. Pontoon boats can be tricky to trailer with a side wind but not something I have to deal with since I pretty much just use our subdivision ramp. I havent pulled mine much but it isn't heavy at all, I assume it would catch some wind on hwy but not like a travel trailer or anything.

We're on our third center console. I can't ever see having anything else. My wife hints around at a toon. I said that I don't want to tow it, don't to deal with the wind on the lake with it, just flat don't want one.

When we aren't fishing we ski. I don't want to fish out of a Ski Nautique and I don't want to ski behind a toon. CC works for us.

I'm thinking about a little upholstery work in ours to please her for this year and see if there are any bargains next year for another CC. I've always done pretty well on like new used boats and think there may be some good deals around this fall or next year.

Deck boats are nice but not near as smooth as a toon in choppy water. Dad talked mom into one years ago and it was nice but the first time they were in it mom hated it. Next summer he had another toon. (The one I have now)

I've got a 21 foot pontoon, and love it. Threw 9 people and their associated coolers, chairs, beach toys, and junk on it this weekend and headed out. For carrying a bunch of people comfortably they can't be beat. I've got a 90 horse 4 stroke (you definitely want a 4 stroke) and it'll max out about 24-25. Nine people and their junk kept it down to about 18-19. It's not fast, but it gets me where I want to go. I can sling some kids on a tube, it's not terribly exciting, but they have fun.

Get as much motor as you can afford. If you can't afford 90+ HP, then skip it. A 20 foot boat with a 40 horse motor runs like a shipping barge. My next one will be bigger with more motor, but I'm happy with what I have. There were a couple new ones pull up on the beach this weekend that I walked over and had a look at, my favorite one was a tritoon with a 200 horse 4 stroke. Guy that owned it said he had no issues pulling anyone on a tube or ski. Best of both worlds if you don't have to concern yourself with other people's misconceptions about pontoon boats.

The value of the boat didn't change, the value of the money changed.

My thoughts exactly. Unless you like piling on a ton of people and baking in the sun all day. We had a Bennington several years ago. Very nice boat. It would sorta pull a tube, but that was about it. When the in laws bought a place on the water, and we didn't need to put everyone in the boat at once, we bought a ski boat and haven't looked back. I hate pontoons.

I'm not a huge fan of toons, but my FIL has one and I've sold my boat so I won't complain. We've never had any problems with loading - if you have someone who knows how to drive a boat - and someone who understands backing a trailer and positioning the trailer with a little wind - it's a breeze to load.

Biggest trolling motor you can get.

We just made stake out poles for his. Since his boat is 24' and there's plenty of room - we made 15' poles...overkill. But they are a game changer when you're catfishing or crappie fishing in shallow water. Heck I've seen several toons now on Tawakoni with power poles, but stake out poles work fine and cost us less than $50 to make.

The only thing I absolutely loathe about it - maybe it's just us - but you can't get the transducer to read on plane - the toons make too much cavitation I guess. We've tried all kinds of different stuff and nothing has worked.

FIL had one. It was like towing a brick. Launching not bad but loading was a PIA. They are comfortable and handle rough water ok. Bay Boat / CC would be my choice. I had a Ranger BB and other then an occasional urge to go 65 MPH I would not give up my 2200 Bay Champ for anything else right now. It weighs in at 5000 lbs and tows better thdn my FILs 18' pontoon. Another problem with toons is they usually have small diameter wheels. I saw one today being loaded up on a flat bed wrecker on 2 mile bridge. I am guessing trailer issue.[Linked Image]
