It's been too long for me. Muffin moaned like she had died and gone to after a little alcohol and a coupler of q- tips. Do you? How often?

I don’t do mine often enough, but they got it done last weekend. None of them really like it.

What’s your cleaning recipe Bill? I’m out of the wash I got from the vet.

I use regular rubbing alcohol. I pour a little in the cap then rub the ear. Q-tip next. Repeat second ear.

Three of the dogs get them cleaned 2X a month. The one with ear problems 2X per week.

Use stuff from the vet, put a bunch in the ears, massage the ears then get the hell out of the way. When they get all done shaking I use cotton ball or two to clean out. Wouldn't trust a Q-tip, don't hardly trust them in my ears where I know how it feels and when it hurts. (and don't do it as often as I should)

Chet, you are right about get out of the way and let them shake out the solution! I use a damp paper towel afterwards to clean what I can see lingering.

rarely clean dogs ears, but when I do I use the same combo I use after swimming --1/3 alcohol 2/3 vinegar. Pretty much stops the swimmer's ear fungus. Too much alcohol dries out ears.

I've never cleaned ears before. Just got back from the vet and $150 light. Yeast infection in both ears. Luke had been shaking his head and blowing his nose for a couple of weeks. I treated him for ear mites with some mineral oil and Ivermectin, but it didn't help. Now I'll be cleaning all the dogs ears on a regular basis. Vinegar should keep the yeast infections at bay.

I use witch hazel instead of alcohol as it's less abrasive to the skin. 1/3 Witch Hazel, 1/3 Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/3 Peroxide, 2T Distilled Water. Only use a paper towel. One quick head movement and you'll stick a q-tip right through an eardrum.
